HVAC Commissioning Specialist, Cell
Description
Tesla is looking for a critical member of the commissioning team responsible for the safe startup and qualification HVAC systems from mechanical completion through full operational readiness. This is a hands-on role designed for a highly experienced HVAC professional who understands the operating principles of a wide-variety of HVAC equipment and how it can fail. Extensive knowledge of air handlers, rooftop units, fans, chilled and hot water systems, startup, and functional testing is essential. Experience with balancing is preferred. The ideal candidate has a HVAC field technician background with experience in startup, commissioning, and a refrigeration certification. Expert operational theory and troubleshooting knowledge are essential. They must bring a disciplined, safety-first approach to startup execution, a thorough understanding of equipment behavior during early operations, and the ability to lead cross-functional teams through the challenges inherent in bringing new facilities online. This position requires travel of 50% or more to meet project needs.
Responsibilities
- Support and/or led commissioning and startup activities for mechanical systems, air handlers, dust collection systems, rooftop units, fans, chillers, boilers, and machinery through installation, commissioning, and turnover activities
- Perform startup, maintenance, and troubleshooting of refrigeration circuits. Including pressure tests, evacuation, and charging of associated systems
- Perform walkdowns of installed equipment, log punchlist items, and review documentation to proactively mitigate operational risks
- Interface and supervise 3rd party vendors and OEM’s
- Support coordination of work, pre-task planning, Pre-Startup Safety Reviews, LOTOV and management of change
- Manage commissioning tools, equipment, supplies, spares, and other resources
- Be a leader of safety on all sites
Requirements
- 10+ years of hands-on experience of HVAC mechanical field service and startup in commercial and industrial settings
- Possess current EPA 608 refrigeration license with strong preference for Universal Certification
- Technical expertise in the installation, service, and startup of AHUs, RTUs, chillers, VRF systems, fans, pumps, and other HVAC systems
- Expert level troubleshooting experience in mechanical systems and associated controls
- Excellent communication and documentation skills including proficiency in reading and interpreting P&IDs, flow diagrams, wiring diagrams, and technical specifications
- Proficiency with personal lift equipment and fall protection
- Deep working knowlege in the operating pricipless of wet & dry mechanical system, psychrometircs, refrigeration, balancing, room pressurization, and controls systems
