Summary

Join the HID Sensing and Interaction Algorithms team — an eclectic group with backgrounds in signal and image processing, machine learning, statistics, controls, physics, firmware and software development, neuroscience, human factors, and more — dedicated to inventing new ways of interacting with Apple products. We develop advanced sensing algorithms that enable the best-in-the-world user experiences for Mac, iPhone, iPad, Pencil, Watch, and exciting new products, shipping to millions of users every year.

The team operates at the intersection of hardware, software, and design, meaning the problems you'll solve have many interesting facets, and you'll collaborate with specialists from all across Apple. We are looking for a signal processing and machine learning algorithms engineer with strong C/C++ implementation skills and the ability to drive discussions with cross-functional teams across a full product cycle.

You will work on innovative projects, taking algorithmic solutions from research to production, and playing a direct role in shipping amazing products to millions of users every year.

Description

As an HID algorithms engineer, you will combine skills from a variety of fields to solve complex data processing and sensing challenges. The process starts early in a product’s lifecycle as we explore what might be possible and identify challenges and their potential solutions, then continues as we rapidly iterate on cleaning and analyzing data, building and testing algorithms, and finishes with detailed implementation, analysis, and validation. You should have excellent mathematical skills and experience working with algorithms and data, be proficient at programming, and have a desire to work closely with others in a cross-functional team. In return, you will get to work on challenging and fascinating problems with hardworking co-workers, and ship great solutions at scale.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Experience in early-stage algorithm development, from concept through validation using signal processing and machine learning.
  • Experience building mathematical models in Python, MATLAB, R, or a similar high-level language.
  • Programming skills in C/C++.
  • Excellent problem solving and root cause analysis skills.
  • BS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or related STEM field, with 3 years of industry experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • MS/Ph.D. in EE, CS, Physics, Statistics, Mathematics, or another engineering or technical field.
  • Strong background in statistical signal processing, estimation/inference, and state-space models.
  • Strong engineering math background (e.g., applied linear algebra, probability and statistics).
  • Experience working with embedded or resource-constrained systems.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and documentation skills.
