Head of Finance Performance Management - Rail Infrastructure
Position Overview
Siemens Mobility North America is seeking an experienced finance leader to head Finance and Performance Management for the Rail Infrastructure business in North America. The role provides an independent, forward-looking view of performance and serves as a trusted sparring partner to RI and Finance leadership, while ensuring a consistent connection between the business unit, the North America region and global stakeholders.
The successful candidate will lead the RI FPM team and own the coordination, consolidation, analysis and communication of the business unit’s financial performance. The role combines strong finance governance with commercial insight, constructive challenge and pragmatic support for business decisions in a complex project and product environment.
What You Will Accomplish
Drive fact-based performance management by translating financial and operational information into a clear view of results, outlook, risks, opportunities and required management actions.
Act as a credible, independent and solution-oriented business partner who challenges assumptions, explains trade-offs and supports sound decisions without taking over operational ownership from the business.
Create a reliable and coherent RI financial narrative across segments and stakeholder levels, with clear linkage between underlying drivers, financial statements and management priorities.
Build a high-performing, collaborative FPM team that combines business proximity with common North America standards, shared methods and continuous capability development.
Advance process harmonization, digitalization, analytics and responsible use of AI to improve the quality, speed and productivity of finance work.
Key Responsibilities
Business Partnership and Performance Management
Serve as the principal FPM partner for Rail Infrastructure leadership and the primary RI interface to North America regional and global finance stakeholders.
Monitor business performance across key financial and operational indicators; identify trends, deviations and emerging risks or opportunities early and convert them into decision-relevant insights.
Provide objective challenge to forecasts, budgets, business cases and performance assumptions; develop scenarios, sensitivities and fact-based recommendations for management.
Prepare concise executive-level analyses and presentations that explain what changed, why it matters, what remains uncertain and where management attention or action is required.
Planning, Forecasting, Reporting and Financial Integrity
Lead and coordinate the RI annual budget, monthly forecast and management reporting processes, including calendars, inputs, consolidation, review loops, commentary and submission requirements.
Ensure a complete, accurate and internally consistent view of P&L, balance sheet and cash flow, including transparent bridges between actuals, forecast, budget and prior outlook.
Challenge the plausibility and consistency of business and project inputs, investigate unusual entries and variances, and ensure material risks, opportunities and management adjustments are visible in the consolidated outlook.
Partner closely with Accounting, Commercial Project Management, Operations and other contributors to align close impacts, forecast assumptions and the financial storyline while maintaining clear accountability for source data and business decisions.
Support timely escalation of material performance, cash, balance-sheet, compliance or control topics and ensure decision makers have the evidence needed for appropriate follow-up.
Governance, Process Excellence and Digitalization
Apply and reinforce applicable finance governance, internal-control and reporting requirements; support audit readiness and transparent documentation of significant assumptions and judgments.
Clarify responsibilities and interfaces across FPM, the business, Accounting, CPM, Operations and central functions to reduce duplication, close ownership gaps and avoid creation of parallel or “shadow” controlling structures.
Drive common standards and best-practice sharing across North America FPM while allowing fit-for-purpose differences for RI business models and segment requirements.
Sponsor simplification, automation, analytics and digital-finance initiatives, including effective use of SAC, SAP, standardized templates and responsible AI-enabled workflows.
Continuously assess the value, effort and control implications of recurring reports and processes; prioritize improvements that increase insight, reliability or productivity.
Leadership and Talent Development
Lead, coach and develop a diverse team of finance professionals; set clear priorities, quality standards, responsibilities and development objectives.
Create an environment of trust, candid communication, accountability, collaboration and continuous learning across locations and organizational boundaries.
Balance business support, governance and capacity; allocate resources to the most material topics and ensure resilient coverage of critical recurring processes.
Contribute actively to the North America FPM leadership team and the broader OneFPM agenda, including talent development, succession planning and cross-business collaboration.
Scope and Accountability
FPM owns financial transparency, process coordination, consolidation, independent challenge and management insight. Business and functional owners remain accountable for operational plans, source assumptions, corrective actions and final business decisions. The Head of FPM RI ensures that these interfaces are explicit, that material issues are surfaced, and that temporary support does not unintentionally become a permanent transfer of ownership.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Experience
Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration or a related field, or equivalent relevant professional experience.
Typically 8+ years of progressive experience in controlling, FP&A, finance business partnering, commercial project management or a comparable finance function, including meaningful leadership responsibility.
Demonstrated ability to lead budgeting, forecasting, performance reporting and executive review processes in a complex matrix organization.
Strong understanding of P&L, balance sheet and cash-flow interdependencies, with the ability to connect project, operational and commercial drivers to financial outcomes.
Excellent analytical judgment and the ability to distinguish facts, estimates and hypotheses; comfortable challenging assumptions and making uncertainty explicit.
Executive-level communication and presentation skills, including the ability to turn complex data into concise, decision-oriented messages for regional and international stakeholders.
Proven people-leadership capability with a track record of coaching experienced professionals, setting direction and building constructive relationships across functions and hierarchies.
High integrity, resilience and sound judgment; able to prioritize effectively and deliver reliable results in a fast-paced environment with competing deadlines.
Advanced proficiency with enterprise planning, reporting and analytical tools. Experience with SAP Analytics Cloud (SAC), SAP, data visualization, automation or AI-enabled finance workflows is an advantage.
Experience in project-driven, infrastructure, transportation or industrial businesses is preferred.
