By combining Siemens automation platforms, drive technologies, industrial communication systems, and digital services, the Cranes team helps customers optimize the operation of Ship-to-Shore (STS), Rubber-Tyred Gantry (RTG), and Rail-Mounted Gantry (RMG) cranes.
Job Description
During your internship or graduation assignment, you will become part of the Technical Sales Department within the Siemens Cranes business.
The sales team uses a variety of engineering and calculation tools to select, size, and configure electrical drive systems, motors, automation components, and complete crane solutions for customers worldwide. The goal of this assignment is to analyze these tools and identify opportunities to improve efficiency, accuracy, and user experience.
Your responsibilities may include:
- Analyzing the current engineering tools used for sizing and selecting power and control systems for container crane applications.
- Investigating bottlenecks, inefficiencies, and opportunities for automation within the technical sales workflow.
- Gathering requirements from sales managers, engineers, and application specialists.
- Evaluating modern technologies such as AI-assisted engineering, web applications, data analytics, and low-code platforms.
- Developing concepts, prototypes, or proof-of-concepts for improved engineering tools.
- Testing and validating proposed improvements together with end users.
- Quantifying potential benefits such as reduced engineering time, improved quotation accuracy, better knowledge sharing, and increased customer responsiveness.
- Presenting recommendations and a roadmap for future implementation.
Who are you?
- You are currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Computer Science, or a related field.
- You have an interest in technical sales engineering, automation, electrification, and industrial applications.
- Knowledge of, or willingness to learn about, mechanical fundamentals, electrical motors, and drive systems.
- You communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
- You are analytical, proactive, eager to learn, and able to work independently.
- You enjoy collaborating with different stakeholders and are comfortable presenting your ideas.
- You are a creative thinker who likes improving existing processes and tools.
What we offer
- An internship of a minimum of 4 and a maximum of 6 months, for 4 or 5 days per week (to be agreed upon), starting in February 2027.
- An internship position in The Hague within an informal, professional work environment.
- A monthly internship allowance of €700 for Bachelor-level internships (HBO/WO) or €750 for Bachelor/Master thesis internships (HBO/WO).
- One paid leave day per month.
