Front-End Engineer II
READY TO DO SOMETHING BIG?
How would you build the next generation of experiences that help hundreds of thousands of sellers make smarter decisions about where, when, and how to send billions of products into Amazon’s fulfillment network?
Fulfillment by Amazon (FBA) is a global service that gives sellers access to Amazon’s world-class fulfillment and distribution network. Sellers—from large global brands to small businesses and entrepreneurs across 135 countries—rely on FBA to store their inventory, fulfill customer orders, and deliver products quickly and reliably to customers around the world.
The FBA Placement organization is at the heart of this experience. We build intelligent systems and seller-facing experiences that determine how inventory enters and is distributed across Amazon’s fulfillment network. Our products help sellers understand their inbound options and make decisions across cost, delivery speed, inventory placement, capacity, and operational constraints—while helping Amazon position inventory closer to customers.
We are looking for a Front-End Engineer II to help build the next generation of FBA inbound and placement experiences.
As a Front-End Engineer II, you will work at the intersection of customer experience and large-scale distributed systems. You will translate complex supply-chain decisions and optimization capabilities into simple, intuitive experiences that sellers can understand and act on. You will build responsive, performant, accessible, and maintainable web applications used by sellers around the world.
You will collaborate closely with UX designers, product managers, software engineers, and science teams to take ideas from concept through launch. You will influence front-end architecture, establish reusable patterns and components, and raise the engineering bar for seller experiences across FBA.
This is an opportunity to solve challenging customer and technical problems, influence the evolution of a global product, and build experiences that directly affect how billions of units move through Amazon’s fulfillment network.
Come join us and help build the future of FBA.
Key job responsibilities
As a Front-End Engineer II, you will:
- Design, develop, test, and launch high-quality web experiences for FBA sellers worldwide.
- Translate complex workflows involving inventory placement, capacity, cost, and delivery options into simple and intuitive customer experiences.
- Work closely with UX designers and product managers to turn customer needs and product concepts into scalable technical solutions.
- Own significant front-end features and components from design through implementation, launch, measurement, and continuous improvement.
- Build reusable UI components, frameworks, and patterns that improve consistency and accelerate development across FBA experiences.
- Make sound architectural and technology decisions for large-scale front-end applications while balancing near-term delivery with long-term maintainability.
- Integrate front-end experiences with APIs and distributed backend services, designing gracefully for latency, failures, asynchronous operations, and changing data.
- Deliver responsive, performant, secure, and accessible experiences across browsers, devices, marketplaces, and seller workflows.
- Apply strong computer science and software engineering fundamentals to write simple, extensible, testable, and maintainable code.
- Improve engineering quality through code reviews, automated testing, observability, operational excellence, and continuous improvements to development practices.
- Investigate customer and operational issues across the full application stack and drive them to resolution.
- Collaborate with engineers across FBA and Amazon to influence technical direction and deliver experiences spanning multiple systems and organizations.
- Mentor other engineers, contribute to engineering best practices, and help raise the technical bar of the team.
A day in the life
You might start your day reviewing customer feedback and operational metrics for a recently launched seller experience. You could then work with a UX designer and product manager to refine a new workflow that helps sellers understand their inventory placement and delivery options.
Later, you may collaborate with backend and science engineers to define an API contract for a new optimization capability, review a teammate’s design or code change, and spend focused development time building and testing a new experience.
The problems we solve often span UX, front-end architecture, distributed services, and complex supply-chain decisions. You will have significant ownership over how those capabilities ultimately come together as a simple experience for our sellers.
About the team
The FBA Placement organization owns the technology that determines where and when seller inventory enters Amazon’s fulfillment network.
Our systems evaluate factors including fulfillment cost, customer delivery speed, available capacity, seller preferences, and network constraints to provide sellers with inbound options and recommendations. These decisions have significant impact on both the seller experience and Amazon’s fulfillment network.
Our front-end experiences are where these sophisticated optimization systems become tangible for sellers. Our goal is to make complex supply-chain decisions understandable and actionable—helping sellers confidently choose the right inbound options without needing to understand the complexity of the systems operating behind them.
We are a multidisciplinary organization spanning front-end and backend engineering, product, UX, and applied science. We operate with a high degree of ownership and encourage engineers to influence both the customer experience and the underlying technical architecture.
If you enjoy turning complex problems into simple customer experiences, building products at global scale, and working across the full technology stack, FBA Placement offers a unique opportunity to make an impact.
