Description and Requirements

Role Summary

Lenovo Infrastructure Solutions Group Product Assurance is seeking a Server Firmware Test Engineer specializing in BMC, Rack Manager (RM), and Security. This role is responsible for validating firmware quality, security, reliability, and manageability features across Lenovo server platforms while driving defect resolution and continuous test improvement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Define test strategies, coverage, test plans, and test cases based on product specifications, design documents, requirements, and customer expectations.
  • Design, execute, and maintain manual and automated firmware validation across Rack Manager, out-of-band, in-band, and BMC-local management paths.
  • Validate server management capabilities including IPMI, Redfish, SSH/SFTP, Serial-over-LAN, inventory management, telemetry, event logging, firmware updates, and recovery workflows.
  • Verify firmware security and reliability features including secure boot, signed firmware, anti-rollback protection, access control, Root of Trust (RoT), Cerberus, MCTP, recovery mechanisms, and fault-handling scenarios.
  • Analyze failures using RM logs, BMC journals, SEL records, firmware logs, and system-level diagnostic information.
  • Drive defect lifecycle management, including reporting, debugging, tracking, and collaborating with firmware, platform, security, and project teams to achieve resolution.
  • Own quality deliverables for assigned programs and ensure test evidence and validation results meet customer and business requirements.
  • Identify opportunities to improve test methodologies, automation coverage, and validation efficiency while supporting new server, GPU, and next-generation infrastructure platforms.

Skills & Experience

Must-Have

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Information Management, or a related field; equivalent practical experience will also be considered.
  • 3+ years of experience in server firmware testing, with 5-10 years preferred for experienced-level candidates.
  • Strong hands-on experience in BMC testing, Rack Manager testing, security validation, or a combination of these areas.
  • Solid understanding of server architecture, including BMC, BIOS/UEFI, CPLD, host systems, management interfaces, and firmware update or recovery processes.
  • Experience reviewing technical specifications, design documentation, standards, and customer requirements.
  • Strong troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills with cross-functional engineering teams.
  • Professional proficiency in spoken and written English.

Good-to-Have

  • Experience with Python, shell scripting, or other automation scripting languages.
  • Experience with Robot Framework or similar test automation frameworks.
  • Firmware or software development experience.
  • Experience with GPU servers, AI infrastructure, CI/CD pipelines, or large-scale regression testing.
  • Familiarity with technologies including IPMI, Redfish, MCTP, Cerberus, RoT, Secure Boot, TPM, firmware signing, and anti-rollback protection.
