The Position:
The Ubiquiti Kaunas office is looking for a talented and self-driven embedded C/C++ developer focused on Wi-Fi. You’ll bring experience, enthusiasm, and creativity to solve brand-new problems, think beyond the obvious, and make things work—even when the solution isn’t straightforward.
Responsibilities:
- Build firmware for new Wi-Fi 6, 6E and WiFi 7 access points and routers;
- Collaborate with global firmware, hardware, RF, and product teams to deliver cutting-edge wireless networking products;
- Develop and maintain user-space services and libraries, management daemons, and integrations with hostapd and wpa_supplicant;
- Integrate third-party components and chipset SDKs into our OpenWrt-based firmware and build systems;
- Maintain and improve existing product firmware, focusing on stability, performance, security, and maintainability;
- Work closely with hardware and RF engineers on bring-up, calibration, validation, and issue investigation;
- Optimize roaming, mesh networking, airtime fairness, OFDMA, MU-MIMO, DFS, automatic channel selection, and QoS/WMM;
- Diagnose complex laboratory and field issues using logs, packet captures, tracing, and on-device profiling.
Requirements:
- 3+ years of embedded firmware development experience using C or C++;
- Strong understanding of Linux internals, including processes, memory management, networking, netlink, and event-driven I/O;
- Solid networking fundamentals, including TCP/UDP, routing, firewalls, and traffic control;
- Experience with Wi-Fi standards and concepts, including IEEE 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac/ax/be), WPA2/WPA3, EAP, and SAE;
- Experience with Git, cross-compilation, toolchains, and embedded build systems such as OpenWrt or Buildroot;
- Experience with AI tools - Claude, Codex, etc;
- Fluent in English and Lithuanian.
Nice to have:
- Linux wireless or driver experience involving mac80211, cfg80211, NL80211, ath10k; ath11k or mt76;
- Hands-on experience customizing hostapd, wpa_supplicant, or their control interfaces;
- Experience with Qualcomm Atheros, MediaTek, or comparable chipset SDKs and board bring-up;
- Understanding of RF fundamentals, including link budget, SNR, MCS, spectral analysis, regulatory domains and DFS;
- Experience with 802.11s, EasyMesh, band steering, client steering, or 882.11k/v/r roaming optimization;
- Experience with Wireshark, tcpdump, radiotap, iPerf3, IxChariot, or automated wireless testing frameworks;
- Python or Bash scripting experience and familiarity with CI/CD systems.
