Ring is growing in Poland and we are looking for a Senior Embedded Software Engineer to join our firmware team in Gdansk. You will shape the firmware that runs on IoT devices used by millions of customers worldwide, and you will do it as a technical leader: setting the architecture, raising the bar on quality, and making the engineers around you better.

This is a hands on role. You will still write code and debug hardware. The difference at this level is scope. You will own the technical direction of a significant part of our firmware, decide how subsystems fit together, and be the person other teams come to when a problem crosses a boundary that nobody owns yet. You will take a product from an early idea and an unfinished board through to millions of units in the field, and you will be accountable for the decisions that made it work.

Our team operates with high autonomy and a strong feedback culture. We expect you to disagree with us when you think we are wrong.

Key job responsibilities
  • Own the design and implementation of firmware spanning several subsystems, such as connectivity, streaming, power management, sensors, or security.
  • Lead your colleagues to deliver high quality C and C++ that will scale with the needs of the business.
  • Make architecture decisions that hold up across products, and write them down clearly enough that other teams can build on them.
  • Set the technical bar through code review, design review, and the standards you hold yourself to, and empower your colleagues to meet and raise it.
  • Mentor engineers, grow the people around you, and multiply what the team can deliver.
  • Partner with hardware, QA, cloud, app, and silicon vendor teams to deliver one integrated product experience, and drive the decisions that cross those lines.
  • Work with your manager and leadership to shape the firmware roadmap and influence the technical strategy behind it.
  • Find and fix the hardest problems we have, including the ones that only reproduce on one board variant, at low temperature, or after eight hours of soak.
  • Raise technical risk early, with a recommendation attached.
A day in the life
You start by reviewing a design document and pushing back on a choice that will not hold once a second product picks it up. After standup you write a driver for a new part and test it on the board at your desk. Midday you help the hardware team decide whether firmware can cover a missed power target. In the afternoon you pair on a bug that runs from application code down to a register, and show your colleague how to find it rather than fixing it yourself. You close the day writing to leadership about a schedule risk.

About the team
We build the firmware inside Ring devices, from doorbells and cameras to security products. Our work starts before the hardware exists and continues long after launch, which means we own architecture, bring up, feature delivery, and the health of what is already in customers' homes. Our mission is to make devices that people trust, and to make them ship on time.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, analytics, mathematics, statistics, IT or equivalent
  • Deep embedded development experience in C or C++ on resource constrained hardware.
  • Experience owning the design of embedded subsystems or products end to end, from architecture through production release.
  • Experience shipping embedded products at volume, and a clear view of what separates a working prototype from a product in millions of homes.
  • Experience with ARM CPUs, low level drivers, interrupt service routines, and debugging across the hardware and software boundary.
  • Experience mentoring engineers and raising the technical standard of a team.
  • Ability to communicate technical decisions and risks clearly to engineers and to non engineers, in writing.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree or higher in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Electrical Engineering.
  • Experience leading bring up of new silicon or boards, working with vendors.
  • Commercial wireless protocols such as BLE or Wi-Fi.
  • Firmware for battery powered products, and power optimisation as a measured discipline.
  • Audio or video streaming on embedded platforms.
  • Embedded security, including secure boot, key storage and secure update.
  • Embedded Linux and FreeRTOS.
  • SPI, I2C and UART, plus JTAG and protocol analysers.
  • Experience defining test strategy: unit, regression and system testing on real hardware.
  • Building GenAI applications.
