A Snapshot

As the Chargeman (Electrical) within the Tech Ops team, you will support the safe operation, inspection, and maintenance of AirTrunk’s electrical infrastructure across the Johor Bahru data Centre campuses (JHB1 and JHB2).

Working closely with the Critical Environment Specialist (Competent Engineer) and the operations team, you will assist in maintaining reliable operation of electrical systems ranging from low-voltage distribution up to medium-voltage systems, ensuring they are operated safely and in compliance with Malaysian electrical regulations.

You will play a key role in supporting daily electrical operations, inspection activities, and switching operations while helping maintain the reliability of mission-critical electrical infrastructure supporting hyperscale data Centre operations.

Key focus areas include:

  • Supporting the safe operation of electrical infrastructure, including medium-voltage and low-voltage systems across the data Centre campus.
  • Assisting the Competent Engineer in inspection, monitoring, and maintenance of electrical installations.
  • Supporting the Competent Engineer inspection program, including field inspections and preparation of inspection documentation.
  • Performing authorized medium-voltage switching operations and assisting in low-voltage switching activities.
  • Supporting switching activities as part of a buddy system during high voltage switching operations led by the Competent Engineer.
  • Monitoring equipment condition, identifying defects, and supporting rectification activities to maintain system reliability and compliance.
  • Supporting safe electrical operations across JHB1 and JHB2 facilities.

Your Day to Day

  • Monitor the condition and operation of medium-voltage and low-voltage electrical systems, ensuring safe and reliable operation of electrical infrastructure.
  • Perform routine inspections of 22kV medium-voltage equipment, including switchgear installed at High Voltage Plant (HVP) and Kiosk Transformer (KTX) locations.
  • Perform inspections of 415V low-voltage systems, including generator systems and Power Transfer Units (PTU).
  • Support the internal Competent Engineer inspection program by assisting in inspection activities and preparing draft inspection reports for review by the Competent Engineer.
  • Assist the Competent Engineer during high-voltage inspection activities, including statutory inspection of substations, transformers, and high-voltage switchgear.
  • Perform authorized medium-voltage switching operations in accordance with approved switching procedures.
  • Assist with low voltage switching and system isolation activities during maintenance, testing, or operational works.
  • Support high voltage switching operations as a switching assistant under the direction of the Competent Engineer as part of a buddy system.
  • Identify equipment defects, abnormal conditions, and safety concerns, perform minor defect rectification where possible, and coordinate with relevant teams or contractors to ensure timely resolution of outstanding issues.
  • Assist in coordinating maintenance activities, contractor works, and equipment inspections across the electrical infrastructure.
  • Support preparation and implementation of Method of Procedure (MOP) for operational and maintenance works.
  • Maintain accurate operational logs, inspection records, and maintenance documentation for electrical installations.
  • Assist the operations team in maintaining compliance with Malaysian electrical regulatory requirements and internal safety procedures.
  • Provide operational support during electrical incidents, system disturbances, or emergency situations.
  • Record operational parameters and equipment readings during inspections to support condition monitoring and regulatory requirements.
  • Supervise and coordinate contractor works to ensure maintenance and repair activities are carried out safely and in accordance with approved procedures.
  • Support preventive maintenance and corrective maintenance activities for electrical infrastructure across the campus.

Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in electrical operations, maintenance, or engineering roles within substations, industrial facilities, power plants, or mission-critical environments.
