Electrical Design Engineer for Protection & Automation Panels
[Role Description]
• Design Electrical, Mechanical and System Drawings of Protection and Control Panels in accordance
with customer specifications and guidelines, using design software and drawing tools.
• Develop logic diagrams and protection schemes based on technical drawings and further
customer specifications.
• Prepare (FAT & SAT) Factory & Site Acceptance Test procedures for protection systems projects.
• Collaborate with a team of professionals to develop electrical Systems that meet industry
standards, and customer requirements.
• Be a technical leader in projects or lead other team members in project activities.
• Be one of our primary customer interfaces, including trouble shooting and commissioning
support.
• Provide technical support throughout the project lifecycle, including design, implementation, and
commissioning phases.
• Occasionally provide technical support to the sales team with the development of project scope of
work, sales estimates, and proposals.
Basic Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in electrical/electronic engineering.
• A minimum of 3 years of direct experience in electrical design in the Power Systems protection
and Control Engineering Field.
• Experience working as a Technical Lead Engineer for Electrical Panel Design projects.
• Experience working with AutoCAD, AutoCAD Electrical, or AUCOTEC Engineering Base Software.
• Experience producing technical documentation for Protection and Control systems for Substations
such as Logic Diagrams, Sequences of Operations, FDS, and test procedures.
• Ability to read and fully understand DC and AC schematics, three- and one-line diagrams for
Medium and/or High Voltage substations systems.
• Advanced Knowledge of Microsoft Visio tools.
• Advanced Knowledge of Microsoft Office.
• Applied knowledge of transmission and distribution protection relays; capable of designing and
specifying them; capable of approving and supervising the designs of other engineers.
• Advanced knowledge of Siemens, GE, SEL, ABB, and others relay/automation products and
associated software.
• Communication Network Technologies, including Design and hardware configuration.
• Communication protocols experience such as IEC61850 (MMS/GOOSE/SMV), DNP, Modbus,
IEC103, IEC101, IEC104, PROFINET, PROFIBUS.
• Knowledge of ANSI standards related to Protection and Electrical Panel Design.
• Automation or Protection commissioning experience.
• Factory or Site testing experience in Protection and Automation systems
• Around 5% of travel is expected depending on project assignments and requirements.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Knowledge of Protection and Automation Systems of Electrical Systems.
• Demonstrated knowledge of UL 508A requirements for protection and automation control panels.
• Applied knowledge of Medium and High Voltage Protection
a. Medium voltage protection schemes (including design of transfer schemes and reverse
interlocking schemes)
b. Generator Protection
c. Line Differential and Distance Protection
• Experience in designing Protection and Automation Panels for utilities.
• Professional Engineer license (PE).
• C Programming Language experience.
• Experience working with Engineering Base (EB) Software-AUCOTEC and the Global Engineering
Library (GEL) database for design.
• Experience working with MicroStation Software.
• Experience working with EPLAN.
• Knowledge of ANSI and IEC standards related to Protection and Electrical Panel Design.
