Display Module Engineer
Summary
Apple is looking for a world class module design engineer to lead the design, development and qualification activities of the next generation smart display technology and products.
Description
This individual will serve as a focal point in driving new display technology development and implementation of critical technology platforms to improve display performance, from design conception to hardware and experience prototyping, and to final products. You will be a directly responsible individual to collaborate with multi-functional teams on prototyping efforts for architecture definition, work with suppliers to understand design tolerance and sensitivities, optimize system-level performance based on critical metrics, and validate system designs through engineering builds and design of experiments.
A successful candidate needs to be comfortable with new technology, curiosity and openness to learn new things, a flexible problem solver, meticulous in attention to detail and motivated to drive results. You should be able to tackle problems outside of your respective technical area, have strong presentation and communication skills, and thrive in a hands-on environment that values engineering excellence and innovation. You will be part of something big; come join us!
Responsibilities
- Define and reviewing architecture, module specifications and performance requirements along with actionable test/qualification plans for different display and illumination technologies
- Develop simulation models and hardware test vehicles; execute meticulous validation plans, perform hands-on optical, mechanical and electrical performance characterization, and conduct data analysis to ensure our displays meet Apple’s world-class quality standards
- Collaborating with system architecture teams to translate system-level requirements into optical design targets and trade-space analyses
- Work closely with cross functional engineering teams to validate display modules, leading optical failure analysis and driving corrective actions and mitigations
- Excellent project management, technical communications and multi-functional skills required
- Host regular supplier meetings to drive engineering activities to meet project milestones and convergence
- Investigate new display and illumination technologies, perform detail tradeoff studies, and generate new approaches to further enhance display performance and productivity
- Domestic and international travel may be required
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelors Degree in EE, Optics, Physics, Materials science, or a related field with 10+ years of relevant experience
- Experience in one or more of the following : optical design and characterization, optical simulation, physical and geometrical optics, semiconductor optoelectronics, display technologies, sensors, technologies and statistical analysis
- Experience leading engineering builds, planning test activities, and managing readiness of module deliverables across development phases
- Experience with tools for data acquisition and analysis (Python, LabVIEW), statistical analysis (JMP, MATLAB), and optical simulation (LightTools, FDTD, Zemax, Code V) is strongly desired
- Hands-on experience with optical and electrical measurement systems for characterization, testing and validation
Preferred Qualifications
- MS, or PhD in EE, Optics, Physics, Materials Science, or a related field with 3 years of industry experience
- Experience with different display technologies (transmissive, emissive, reflective etc), LED illumination design, fundamental understanding of optics and device physics are a big plus in driving architecture definition and convergence
- Experience in module engineering, module integration, or high-volume manufacturing processes. Direct mass-production experience is highly beneficial
