THE ROLE

We are seeking a strategic and experienced Director, Proprietary Events to lead Advancing AI, AMD's global flagship conference, and oversee AMD's broader portfolio of proprietary events.

This leader is accountable for Advancing AI's annual strategy, planning, execution, and performance, while overseeing Regional AAI and Developer events, Executive and Internal Events, and strategic Business Unit portfolios.

The successful candidate will serve as the event owner for Advancing AI and lead three portfolio owners responsible for the regional and developer, executive and internal, and strategic Business Unit event portfolios. They will establish direction across these programs, recommend where AMD should invest or evolve its events, and work with internal teams and agency partners to deliver experiences that meet audience and business goals.

You are a strategic event marketing leader with a passion for creating impactful experiences that drive business outcomes. You have a strong track record of leading complex, high-visibility events and portfolios, building alignment across diverse stakeholder groups, and translating business priorities into exceptional audience experiences. You thrive in fast-paced, highly matrixed environments and bring a balance of strategic thinking, operational excellence, financial acumen, and people leadership. You are equally comfortable setting long-term vision, influencing senior stakeholders, and ensuring flawless execution.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Proprietary Portfolio Strategy: Own the strategy, evolution, and performance of AMD’s proprietary event portfolio, ensuring investments align to enterprise priorities, audience needs, and business objectives.
  • Advancing AI Event Ownership: Own Advancing AI as AMD’s global flagship conference, from annual event strategy and planning through delivery and measurement. Define objectives, target audiences, program strategy, experience direction, investment requirements, and success measures. Lead cross-functional teams and agency partners to deliver the event in partnership with Global Event Operations and other AMD stakeholders. 
  • Portfolio Leadership: Lead the three portfolio owners responsible for Regional AAI and Developer Events, Executive and Internal Events, and Strategic Business Unit Events. Directly own the global Advancing AI event within this portfolio.
  • Portfolio Planning & Prioritization: Evaluate investments across proprietary portfolios and recommend where AMD should invest, expand, consolidate, reposition, or exit programs.
  • Audience & Experience Strategy: Ensure each portfolio has clearly defined priority audiences, objectives, value propositions, and experience strategies.
  • Business Alignment: Partner with Business Units, Sales, Marketing, Regional Marketing, Communications, Developer Relations, and executive stakeholders to translate business priorities into event strategies.
  • Portfolio Integration: Identify opportunities to connect audiences and programs across AAI, regional events, developer programs, executive engagement, internal events, and Business Unit portfolios.
  • Investment Management:  Develop investment recommendations, resource strategies, and annual portfolio plans in partnership with Global Event Marketing leadership and Business Operations.
  • Performance & Optimization: Establish portfolio-level success measures and use performance data, audience insights, and business outcomes to guide future investments.
  • Cross-Functional Leadership: Partner closely with Event Marketing, Strategic Partnerships & Sponsorships, Global Event Operations, and other cross-functional teams to translate portfolio strategies into integrated event programs.
  • Team Leadership: Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing team of strategic portfolio leaders.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

  • Extensive progressive experience leading proprietary events, experiential marketing, event portfolios, integrated marketing, or related disciplines, including substantial people leadership and talent development experience.
  • Demonstrated experience directly owning and delivering a large-scale flagship conference, including event strategy, cross-functional planning, execution, and performance.
  • Strong portfolio management skills with experience making investment and prioritization decisions across multiple programs.
  • Experience developing strategies for diverse audiences, including customers, developers, partners, executives, and internal stakeholders.
  • Strong financial acumen with experience managing significant event investments.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence senior stakeholders and build alignment across Business Units and highly matrixed organizations.
  • Demonstrated people leadership and talent development experience.
  • Strong strategic mindset combined with deep expertise in event execution, audience engagement, and experience design. 
  • Exceptional communication, organizational, and decision-making skills.
  • Willingness to travel globally as needed.

EDUCATION

  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, Business, Event Management, or a related field preferred.

LOCATION

  • Santa Clara, CS
  • May be open to considering Austin, TX

Compensation: Expected salary range: USD 165,270.00 per year to USD 236,100.00 per year
