Director of Production, Content, Monetization & Progression (Apex Legends)
Director of Production,
Content, Monetization & Progression
Reports to: Executive Producer · Apex Legends
Apex Legends is one of the most played battle royales in the world, with tens of millions of active players across PC, console, and mobile. The Content, Monetization & Progression team sits at the center of how we keep that experience fresh, rewarding, and sustainable — owning seasonal content, in-game economy, player rewards, storefronts, and the progression systems that drive long-term engagement.
As Director of Production for Content, Monetization & Progression, you will lead the production organization responsible for these initiatives and influence the broader Production organization. Reporting to the Executive Producer, you will manage and develop a team of Producers and Senior Producers, own the integrated delivery strategy across multiple cross-functional teams, and shape the operating model through which our internal teams and external partners deliver high-quality player experiences at global scale.
This is a leadership-through-others role. You will establish clear ownership, coach sound judgment, guide staffing and resource decisions, and step into execution when risk or complexity requires it.
Responsibilities
People and Organizational Leadership
- Lead and develop a team of Producers and Senior Producers, including performance management, morale, career growth, succession planning, and hiring.
- Establish clear roles, decision rights, and expectations so production leaders have the context and authority to lead effectively.
- Partner with the Executive Producer and discipline leaders to shape organizational design, strengthen the production craft, and build an inclusive, high-performing team.
Portfolio and Delivery Leadership
- Own the integrated delivery roadmap across Content, Monetization, and Progression, translating product and creative goals into executable plans.
- Maintain clear visibility into capacity, dependencies, risk, quality, and release readiness, and lead tradeoffs across scope, investment, and timing.
- Establish portfolio-level operating rhythms and scalable production practices that remove bottlenecks, reduce friction, and improve predictability.
- Identify, mitigate, and resolve meaningful risks within constraints while empowering Producers to lead day-to-day execution
Player and Business Outcomes
- Partner with Product Management, Creative, Analytics, and Finance to evaluate investments across player value, engagement, business performance, development cost, and delivery risk.
- Be a partner to ensure monetization and progression plans support long-term player trust and a sustainable player experience.
- Represent the portfolio in studio planning and provide leadership with clear assessments of portfolio health, investment options, delivery confidence, and organizational risk.
Global Development and External Partnerships
- Own the co-development and external production strategy, including partner selection, scope, budget, governance, quality, and performance.
- Allocate internal and external capacity as live-service priorities change, and integrate partners into the broader development organization.
- Establish effective planning, communication, and escalation practices across distributed teams while continuously improving development pipelines and quality.
Qualifications
- 10+ years of game development, software, or comparable product-development experience, including leadership of a complex development portfolio.
- Experience directly managing Producers or other production leaders, including performance management, hiring, career development, and succession planning.
- Experience leading multiple cross-functional teams or a major portfolio within a large-scale live-service game.
- Experience producing seasonal content, progression, economy, monetization, rewards, storefronts, events, or related live-service systems.
- Demonstrated ability to balance player value, creative ambition, business goals, technical constraints, development cost, and team sustainability.
- Experience with portfolio planning, capacity management, dependencies, risk, resource allocation, and release readiness.
- A track record of leading significant co-development or external production relationships, including scope, budget, quality, and partner performance.
- Ability to lead through ambiguity and guide teams through complex product, organizational, and delivery changes.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to move between executive investment discussions and detailed delivery or technical conversations.
- Fluency with qualitative and quantitative data to inform decisions, challenge assumptions, and communicate tradeoffs.
- A player-first mindset and an understanding of the responsibility involved in building monetization and progression systems for a large player community.
- Experience with portfolio planning and reporting tools such as Jira, Confluence, or comparable platforms.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience launching and sustaining a large-scale competitive multiplayer or AAA live-service title.
- Experience leading teams across multiple studios, countries, or time zones.
- Experience guiding organizational change or evolving a production operating model.
- Contributions to the production community through mentorship, teaching, speaking, writing, or communities of practice.
