That’s why our team is looking to add a Director of Intelligence & Travel Safety.
The Director of Intelligence & Travel Safety is responsible for establishing the vision, strategy, and priorities for identifying and assessing threats, delivering actionable intelligence, and protecting employees traveling on behalf of the company. The Director oversees a multidisciplinary team of intelligence and travel risk management professionals and serves as a trusted advisor to senior leaders on geopolitical, security, and travel-related risks. This leader ensures intelligence and travel safety capabilities, anticipates evolving threats, informs business decisions, and operates as integrated components of Capital One’s broader security and risk management strategy.

- Possess strong industry influence, and knowledge of physical security principles, incident response best practices, and situational awareness techniques
Key Responsibilities
- Strategy and Program Leadership: Establish the vision, strategy, priorities, and multi-year roadmap for Intelligence and Travel Safety, ensuring capabilities evolve alongside the organization’s business, threat, and risk environment
- Intelligence Leadership: Set intelligence priorities and analytic standards that enable timely identification, assessment, and communication of geopolitical, security, and emerging threats that may impact employees, facilities, operations, or business activities
- Travel Safety Leadership: Provide strategic and tactical oversight of the Travel Safety program, including travel risk frameworks, high-risk travel processes, traveler support, escalation protocols, and response to significant travel-related security events
- Executive Risk Advisory: Serve as a trusted advisor to senior leaders and key stakeholders, translating complex geopolitical and security developments into clear assessments of business exposure, potential impact, and recommend actions
- People Leadership: Lead, develop, and inspire Intelligence & Travel Safety leaders and teams. Establish clear expectations, develop talent, and foster a culture of analytical rigor, accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement
- Integrated Risk Management: Ensure Intelligence and Travel Safety are effectively integrated with security operations, protective services, crisis management, corporate travel, cyber, external relations & brand, and other risk functions to provide a coordinated view of emerging threats and organizational exposure
- Crisis & Emerging Threat Response: Provide leadership during significant geopolitical, security, and travel-related events, ensuring timely intelligence, appropriate escalation, informed decision making, and effective coordination across stakeholders
- Program Governance & Effectiveness: Ensure appropriate governance, controls, metrics, standards, operating routines, and performance measures are established and provide meaningful visibility into program effectiveness and risk
- Stakeholder Influence: Build strong relationships across the organization and influence decisions by ensuring intelligence and travel risk considerations are incorporated into business planning, operations, crisis response, and strategic decision-making
- External Partnerships & Capabilities: Maintain strategic relationship with intelligence and travel risk providers, industry peers, government and law enforcements partners, and other external organizations to strengthen organizational awareness and capabilities
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree or military experience
- At least 10 years of leadership experience within corporate security, intelligence analysis, geopolitical risk, travel risk management, or combination
- At least 6 years of people leadership experience
- At least 3 years of experience briefing corporate executives, boards, government officials or senior executives
- At least 3 years of experience developing strategy, establishing priorities, and driving execution across complex programs
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Security Studies, Intelligence Studies, Communications, or Business Continuity
- Experience in intelligence or security within both the public and private sector
- 15+ years of experience leadership experience within corporate security, intelligence analysis, geopolitical risk, travel risk management, or combination
- 8+ years of people leadership experience
- Strong executive communication skills with the ability to communicate complex and sensitive information clearly and concisely
- Strong demonstrated experience leading teams and developing intelligence professional talent
- Experience leading corporate or government intelligence or travel risk programs within a large, multi-national organization
- Experience operating within a highly regulated industry or complex enterprise risk environment
- Thorough knowledge of the intelligence cycle and how to manage Priority Intelligence Requirements (PIRs) with stakeholders
- Familiarity with intelligence and risk methodologies, risk assessments, and threat monitoring
- Familiarity with intelligence and travel risk standards, especially ISO 31030, technology platforms and external service providers
- Experience in the U.S. Intelligence Community (USIC), military, federal law enforcement or large corporate intelligence group
- Proficiency in Google suite products

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.
McLean, VA: $190,300 - $217,200 for Director, Security ServicesCandidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location, and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidate’s offer letter.
This role is also eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI).
