Within MCAPS - Core, the Customer Service & Support (CSS) organization builds trust and confidence for every person and organization through delivering a seamless support experience. In CSS, we are powered by Microsoft’s AI technology to help consumers, businesses, partners, and more, resolve their issues quickly and securely, helping prevent future problems from occurring and achieving more from their Microsoft investment.

We are seeking a Director, Business Program Management to lead the strategy, development, and execution of high-impact programs across Microsoft. In this role, you will conduct program landscape research and analysis to identify opportunities to develop new programs and enhance existing initiatives that drive meaningful business impact.

As a subject matter expert, you will define program strategies, success criteria, and performance metrics while establishing best practices for program execution, landing, and communication. You will develop strategies to engage key audiences and effectively influence stakeholders, partners, and customers to build alignment and support for critical initiatives.

You will oversee a portfolio of complex programs and projects, managing priorities, timelines, milestones, financial considerations, resource needs, and performance metrics. You will bring deep expertise in understanding interconnected business processes and systems, helping teams evaluate dependencies and understand how changes may impact the broader organization.

You will also use data, insights, and cost-benefit analysis to evaluate program performance and identify opportunities to maximize business value. Working closely with leadership, you will translate organizational direction and strategy into actionable plans, influence sponsorship and stakeholder alignment, and help shift priorities toward new initiatives and objectives.

This role requires a strategic leader who can navigate complexity, influence across organizational boundaries, and turn business priorities into scalable programs that deliver measurable results.

Responsibilities

•    Set enterprise-wide direction for program strategy, performance, and change: Define success metrics, guide business reviews and analytics, drive change management and organizational adoption, and ensure programs align with Microsoft’s strategic priorities and deliver measurable business value.

•    Lead organizational execution, communications, and stakeholder influence: Establish communication and landing strategies, drive rhythm of business, secure executive sponsorship, enable cross-functional readiness, and ensure teams effectively communicate program impact through data-driven storytelling.

•    Drive operational excellence and portfolio governance at scale: Oversee complex program portfolios, establish governance and success criteria, optimize processes, manage resources and capacity, and ensure efficient, customer-focused execution across organizations.

•    Provide strategic thought leadership for innovation and business outcomes: Shape program design, risk management, compliance, and long-term business strategy; guide teams in solving complex problems, identifying new opportunities, simplifying large-scale challenges, and aligning investments with priorities such as AI, security, efficiency, and quality.

•    People Management: Managers deliver success through empowerment and accountability by modeling, coaching, and caring. Model: Live our culture. Embody our values. Qualifications

Required/minimum qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Operations, Finance, or related field AND 8+ years experience in program management, process management, or process improvement
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • 6+ years management (e.g., people, project, process, vendor, change) experience.

Additional or preferred qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Business, Operations, Finance, or related field AND 12+ years experience program management, process management, or process improvement OR Bachelor's Degree in Business, Operations, Finance, or related field AND 15+ years experience in program management , process management, or process improvement
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • 8+ years people management experience.

Business Program Management M6 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $130,900 - $277,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $165,600 - $303,600 per year.
