DFX Manufacturing Engineer (APAC)
Description
Meta's hardware organization is building the next generation of consumer devices — spanning virtual reality headsets, augmented reality glasses, and wearable technology that redefine human connection. The DFX Manufacturing Engineering team plays a central role in translating innovative hardware designs into products that can be manufactured at scale with precision, reliability, and cost efficiency. In this role, you will partner with cross-functional design and operations teams to embed manufacturability principles early in the product development cycle, driving successful New Product Introduction across Meta's Reality Labs portfolio.
Responsibilities
Apply DFX principles — including Design for Manufacturability, Design for Assembly, and Design for Test — during early product development stages to reduce manufacturing risk and improve yield Collaborate with Mechanical, Electrical, Optical, and Industrial Design teams to identify and resolve manufacturability gaps before design freeze, influencing product architecture decisions Define and qualify manufacturing processes for precision assembly, optical module integration, and packaging lines in partnership with contract manufacturers and automation suppliers Develop and maintain manufacturing documentation including process flows, standard operating procedures, line layouts, fixture and equipment specifications, and qualification packages Lead tolerance stack-up and GD&T analysis to ensure design intent is achievable within production process capabilities Drive statistical process control initiatives using DOE, CpK, and GR&R methodologies to establish and monitor process capability at contract manufacturing sites Support engineering builds and pilot runs by troubleshooting assembly issues, conducting root cause and failure analysis, and implementing corrective actions in collaboration with factory operations teams Partner with Product Cost Engineering and Supply Chain teams to identify and execute cost reduction opportunities through design changes, process optimization, and material substitution without compromising quality or reliability Evaluate and qualify new manufacturing technologies, automation solutions, and supplier capabilities to support scaling of consumer electronics products from NPI through mass production Communicate manufacturing readiness status, risk assessments, and mitigation plans to cross-functional stakeholders and program leadership throughout the product development lifecycle
Qualifications
6+ years of experience in manufacturing engineering for consumer electronics hardware products Experience applying DFX methodologies including Design for Manufacturability and Design for Assembly in a product development environment Experience developing and qualifying precision mechanical assembly processes, including fixture design, process documentation, and yield target setting Experience with statistical analysis methods including DOE, CpK, and GR&R for process capability assessment and improvement Experience collaborating with contract manufacturers and suppliers to bring hardware products from NPI through mass production Demonstrated ongoing AI skill development (e.g., prompt/context engineering, agent orchestration) and staying current with emerging AI technologies Demonstrated ability to integrate AI tools to optimize/redesign workflows and drive measurable impact (e.g., efficiency gains, quality improvements) Experience adhering to and implementing responsible, ethical AI practices (e.g., risk assessment, bias mitigation, quality and accuracy reviews) Experience working directly with contract manufacturers and component suppliers in the Asia Pacific region Proficiency in tolerance stack-up analysis and GD&T as applied to high-precision consumer electronics assemblies Familiarity with automation and machine design for high-precision, high-volume manufacturing environments Experience with module assembly or display integration processes relevant to wearable or AR/VR devices
