Mechanical Engineer – R&D | Low Voltage Switchboard

Job Location: Thane

Job Purpose / Scope

Responsible for the design, development, testing and certification of Low Voltage (LV) Switchboards, covering mechanical and electro-mechanical aspects.

The role involves concept development, detailed engineering, preparation of manufacturing documentation, technical support to license partners, execution of type-tests and certification, and coordination with cross-functional teams, vendors and testing agencies.

The position requires hands-on experience in 3D/2D mechanical design, sheet-metal design and electro-mechanical product development.

2. Educational Qualification

Diploma / B.E. / B.Tech. in Mechanical Engineering or Production Engineering.

Relevant experience in LV switchboard / electrical panel design will be an added advantage.

3. Experience & Technical Skills

A) Mandatory:

  • Experience in electro-mechanical design of Low Voltage Switchboards / electrical panels.
  • Knowledge/experience of type-testing and certification of LV switchboards.
  • Knowledge of IEC/IS 61439-1 & 61439-2 and IEC/TR 61641.
  • Overall, 4–5 years of experience in sheet-metal component and assembly design.
  • Minimum 2 years of hands-on experience with 3D mechanical CAD software; SolidWorks preferred.
  • Minimum 1 year of hands-on experience with AutoCAD.
  • Familiarity with engineering documentation and design release processes.
  • Good working knowledge of MS Excel, MS Word, PowerPoint and Outlook.

B) Preferred / Added Advantage

  • Experience with Product Data Management (PDM) / Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems.
  • Familiarity with applicable IEC / IS / DIN standards.
  • Experience in working with ISO/QMS systems and engineering documentation.
  • Exposure to manufacturing processes related to sheet-metal fabrication and electrical panel assembly.

4. Key Roles & Responsibilities

  • Understand engineering requirements and develop mechanical and electro-mechanical designs for LV switchboards.
  • Create and maintain 3D models, 2D drawings, assemblies and manufacturing documentation using SolidWorks and AutoCAD.
  • Prepare and maintain BOMs, product data and design documentation.
  • Support license partners with project-specific layouts, customized/non-standard designs and technical issues.
  • Support type-testing, design verification and certification activities as per applicable standards.
  • Coordinate with manufacturing, quality, procurement, vendors, testing agencies and other cross-functional teams to ensure timely project execution.
  • Identify, analyse and resolve technical/design issues, including root-cause analysis and corrective actions.
  • Maintain and update drawing databases, product records and design releases.
  • Contribute to design standardization, cost optimization and continuous product improvement.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable IEC/IS standards, QMS and EHS requirements.
  • Collaborate closely with the Configurator team to develop, validate and maintain configuration logic, ensuring accurate and technically compliant product configurations aligned with approved designs.
  • The role is not limited to modelling/drafting; it involves end-to-end engineering—from understanding requirements and developing designs to manufacturing support, testing/certification and resolution of technical issues.
