Design Manager, Charging – France (h/f)

Tesla’s Supercharger team designs, builds, and operates the world’s largest fast-charging network. Stations sit on major routes and around cities, and some include solar canopies, rest areas, visitor amenities, and Megapack energy storage (BESS).

Design France owns station design: land, technical and regulatory constraints, layout, planning permits, and the handover package to construction. As Design Manager, you will own a portfolio of Supercharger and Megacharger projects from first layout through to a construction-ready package. You produce the drawings, secure the permits, launch the surveys, and hand a complete file to construction. You hold the dates and balance plot constraints, planning rules, and Tesla standards.

You thrive on autonomy, quality under time pressure, and follow-through with municipalities, landlords, design offices, and internal partners.

Responsibilities

• Own a portfolio of Supercharger and Megacharger sites from first layout to a construction-ready package
• Hold the design dates: planning filed, permit granted, file ready for build
• Design station layouts that work on the plot, in the PLU, and for the customer
• Run technical and planning feasibility (setbacks, PMR, fire, traffic, utilities, heritage and natural hazards where they apply)
• Integrate Megapack and design Megacharger (HGV) sites when the project needs them
• Produce clean AutoCAD and SketchUp drawings, and flag layout choices that push cost out of budget
• Assemble, file, and drive DP, PC, and works-authorisation packages with municipalities, ABF, and SDIS
• Launch Design-owned surveys and the grid-connection application (detailed electrical sizing stays with Deployment)
• Brief design offices on Tesla standards and hand over a complete construction package
• Be the daily link with Development, Deployment, landlords, and local authorities
• Resolve issues at site level before escalating to the Design Lead, and keep a regulatory watch on EV-charging rules (accessibility, fire, technical guides) to improve design methods

Requirements

• Degree in architecture, urban planning, or equivalent, or equivalent working experience
• 4 to 10 years in an architecture practice, project delivery, or EV-charging operator, including taking planning files through to grant
• Proficiency in AutoCAD 2D and SketchUp
• Autonomy on French planning procedures (DP, PC, works authorisations) and reading a PLU
• Knowledge of PMR accessibility and fire safety for ERP car parks
• Comfort running several projects in parallel, with short deadlines and shifting priorities
• Fluent French and English, including technical writing
• Category B driving licence
• Autonomy and follow-through, with a high bar for the quality of every file you submit
• Comfortable working with municipalities, landlords, design offices, construction, and development
• Working knowledge of EV charging and grid connections is a plus
• Megapack or battery storage siting is a plus
• Megacharger or HGV layout design is a plus
• Knowledge of technical guides (Cerema, car-park safety, ATEX) is a plus
