About the team and the role:
At eBay, we connect millions of buyers and sellers around the world, creating economic opportunity for individuals, entrepreneurs, and businesses of all sizes. The Seller Experience team is focused on making it easier and faster for anyone to sell on eBay by combining AI, automation, and intuitive product design to create smarter, more personalized selling journeys.
As a Senior Data Scientist, you will serve as a senior analytics leader for the Selling Experience product area, helping shape product strategy through rigorous experimentation, causal analysis, and scalable data products. You will partner closely with Product and Engineering leaders, mentor junior data scientists, and independently lead complex, high-visibility analytics workstreams across initiatives such as Magical listing flow, personalized seller guidance, AI-powered insights, and experimentation infrastructure. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in ambiguity, brings deep technical expertise, and is excited to scale team impact through AI-powered analytics capabilities and reusable self-serve tools.

What you will accomplish:

  • Lead high-impact experimentation and causal analysis across Selling Experience, designing A/B tests and quasi-experimental approaches that generate reliable insights for complex product decisions and roadmap investments.
  • Shape product strategy by proactively identifying growth opportunities, diagnosing seller friction points, and translating ambiguous business questions into clear analytical frameworks and actionable recommendations.
  • Serve as the analytics anchor for the product area by partnering with Product, Engineering, and business leaders in senior cross-functional forums to align measurement approaches, priorities, and decision-making.
  • Build and scale reusable analytics foundations—including experimentation frameworks, data models, monitoring, and shared tooling—that improve measurement quality and increase team velocity over time.
  • Advance team capabilities by developing AI-powered analytics agents and self-serve data products that help partners access insights faster, make stronger decisions independently, and reduce manual analytical overhead.
  • Raise the bar for analytical excellence by mentoring junior data scientists, guiding technical approaches, and championing high standards for data quality, instrumentation, and measurement reliability across the seller experience.

What you will bring:

  • Master’s or Ph.D. in Data Science, Statistics, Economics, Computer Science, or a related quantitative field, with 7+ years of experience in product analytics, data science, or a similar analytical role.
  • Deep expertise in experimentation and measurement, including A/B testing, advanced experimental design, causal inference, statistical modeling, and other quantitative methods used in complex product environments.
  • Strong SQL skills and experience working with large-scale, complex datasets to deliver rigorous analysis, scalable data models, and decision-ready insights.
  • Hands-on experience applying LLMs or generative AI to analytics or product use cases, including prompt design, evaluation frameworks, AI-assisted workflows, or AI-powered feature integration.
  • Demonstrated success building or contributing to AI agent systems, self-serve data products, or shared analytics tooling that improves team efficiency and broadens access to insights.
  • Proven ability to independently lead high-visibility analytics workstreams, mentor junior team members, and communicate clearly with senior cross-functional stakeholders; experience in marketplace, ecommerce, or large-scale technology products is a plus.
