About Paxos
Today’s financial infrastructure is archaic, expensive, inefficient and risky — supporting a system that leaves out more people than it lets in. So we’re rebuilding it.
We’re on a mission to open the world’s financial system to everyone by enabling the instant movement of any asset, any time, in a trustworthy way. For over a decade, we’ve built blockchain infrastructure that tokenizes, custodies, trades and settles assets for the world’s leading financial institutions, like PayPal, Venmo, Mastercard and Interactive Brokers.
About the team
The Data Engineering team at Paxos builds and maintains the data infrastructure that powers our engineering partners and analytics teams. Our mission is to provide scalable, reliable, and secure data access to support critical business needs, including product analytics, business intelligence, client and regulatory reporting, and operational efficiencies. By continuously enhancing our data platform, we drive innovation, optimize costs, and unlock new revenue opportunities. You'll be working closely with a small, high-impact team of engineers across US and India time zones.
About the role
As a Data Platform Engineer, you will own important parts of our data platform from design through production operation. Depending on the problem, your work may involve data ingestion and pipelines, streaming systems, data lakes and warehouses, time-series or relational databases, Kubernetes, cloud infrastructure, platform automation, security, or governance. We do not expect every candidate to arrive with experience in every part of this stack. We are looking for strong engineering fundamentals, deep experience in at least one relevant area, sound technical judgment, and a demonstrated ability to learn unfamiliar systems quickly.
This role is well suited to someone who enjoys turning ambiguous needs into reliable, maintainable systems; can work independently while collaborating closely with partners; and takes responsibility for the operational outcomes of what they build. For example, a strong engineer with Spark experience should not be excluded simply because Paxos does not currently use Spark—the relevant signal is how they designed, scaled, and operated data systems and how effectively they can transfer that knowledge to a new environment.
What you’ll do
- Own data-platform projects end to end: clarify the problem, evaluate alternatives, design the system, implement and roll it out safely, document it, and operate it in production.
- Design and evolve reliable, scalable, secure, and cost-effective systems for data ingestion, movement, storage, processing, and access.
- Build and improve batch and streaming pipelines and the platform capabilities that support them.
- Develop maintainable software, automation, infrastructure, and CI/CD workflows that make platform changes safer and more repeatable.
- Improve observability, performance, capacity management, incident response, recovery, and operational readiness across the platform.
- Incorporate security, access control, data protection, and governance requirements into platform design and delivery.
- Partner with engineering, analytics, security, compliance, and business stakeholders to understand needs, explain tradeoffs, and deliver pragmatic solutions.
- Evaluate and learn new technologies as platform needs evolve, applying sound engineering judgment rather than defaulting to a familiar tool.
- Use AI tools thoughtfully to accelerate research, design, implementation, testing, debugging, and documentation while critically validating the output.
Contribute to technical direction, design reviews, documentation, and mentoring across a small, high-impact team working across US and India time zones.
About you
Your experience should include:
Required
- A record of independently owning and delivering substantial production systems or platform work from definition through operation.
- Strong system-design and problem-solving skills, including the ability to reason about scale, reliability, failure modes, security, cost, maintainability, and migration tradeoffs.
- Deep production experience in at least one relevant area, such as data pipelines and ingestion, distributed batch or stream processing, Kafka or similar messaging systems, data lakes or warehouses, time-series databases, PostgreSQL or other operational stores, Kubernetes, or cloud infrastructure.
- Proficiency in at least one general-purpose programming language and experience writing, testing, reviewing, and operating maintainable production code.
- Practical experience with automation, production operations, observability, incident response, and safe software or infrastructure delivery.
- Demonstrated learning agility: you have successfully become productive in unfamiliar technologies or domains and can do so without heavy day-to-day direction.
- Clear written and verbal communication and the ability to collaborate asynchronously across teams and time zones.
- Active, responsible use of AI tools in your engineering workflow, paired with strong validation and independent technical judgment.
Nice to Have
- Experience with one or more technologies in our current environment, such as Snowflake, Kafka, Kubernetes, AWS, PostgreSQL, Terraform/Terragrunt, dbt, Dagster, data lakes or open table formats, or time-series databases.
- Experience designing or operating high-volume ingestion, change-data-capture, batch-processing, or event-streaming systems.
- Experience building cloud infrastructure, internal platforms, reusable infrastructure modules, or developer tooling.
- Experience with data governance, security, access control, classification, masking, lineage, or identity integrations.
- Experience working in fintech, banking, payments, healthcare, or another regulated or security-sensitive environment.
