Critical Projects Implementation (CPI) delivers retrofit and infrastructure projects across Amazon’s operational data centers. Our data analytics function turns complex construction and project-controls data into the insights CPI and CPT leadership rely on to make timely, high-stakes decisions. Today that function runs on a single engineer supporting a growing portfolio of dashboards, data-quality checks, and reporting pipelines — a concentration of knowledge and workload that has outpaced one person.

This role adds a second Business Intelligence Engineer to the team. The engineer will partner with our existing analytics owner to share ownership of CPI’s reporting platform, build resilience into critical pipelines, and extend our capacity to serve CPT programs, MBR inputs, and regional-management reporting audiences. It is equal parts data engineering and customer partnership: you will build the pipelines and dashboards, and you will sit with the customers who depend on them to make sure the solution actually answers the question behind the request.

Key job responsibilities
Design, develop, and maintain BI solutions that turn complex construction and project-controls data into actionable insights for senior leadership, CPT program teams, and Regional Managers.

Partner directly with customers to gather requirements, challenge assumptions, and translate business needs into scalable data models, dashboards, and reports. Bring genuine curiosity to every engagement to uncover what customers need, not just what they ask for.

Drive process-improvement initiatives by identifying gaps in existing workflows and advocating for best data practices, working collaboratively with customers to refine and evolve processes until the solution truly delivers.

Build and maintain ETL/ELT pipelines within the AWS ecosystem for extraction, transformation, and loading of data across a variety of sources.

Oversee production operations including data-delivery optimization, infrastructure scalability, code deployments, and release management.

Apply and uphold data-governance and security standards, ensuring appropriate access controls and secure handling of sensitive operational data.

Work as a peer to CPI’s existing analytics engineer — sharing ownership of critical pipelines and dashboards, reviewing each other’s work, and building redundancy so no reporting capability depends on a single person.

Establish and evangelize best practices for data integration, documentation, and solution design across engineering and business teams.

Basic Qualifications

  • 3+ years of technical infrastructure management experience
  • 3+ years of using SQL to extract and manipulate data experience
  • Experience with data visualization using Tableau, Quicksight, or similar tools
  • Experience in ETL management/data pipeline
  • Experience working on and delivering end to end projects independently

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience directly related to the design or construction of data centers or critical infrastructure or large-scale mechanical and electrical plants
  • track record of going beyond the ask — identifying process gaps or data opportunities that were not part of the original scope and driving them to resolution.
  • Experience building and operating highly available data pipelines using AWS technologies including Redshift, S3, Glue, Lambda, DynamoDB, and IAM.
  • Experience in a customer-facing role where requirements were ambiguous or incomplete, with a track record of driving clarity through structured discovery and constructive challenge.
  • Experience with large-scale, complex datasets in a business environment, including data mining and warehouse design.
  • Familiarity with data governance, access controls, and secure handling of sensitive operational data.
