Counsel, Insurance Litigation
Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Counsel, Litigation to join our dynamic and growing Litigation Team at Tesla. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for directly litigating cases, developing and driving litigation strategy with a trial-focused approach, partnering with the business to identify potential litigation risks and solutions, and working with outside counsel on select representations.
As a Counsel, Litigation, you will play a critical role in supporting Tesla in a wide range of significant litigation matters worldwide, with a focus on directly handling litigation matters in-house. You will be part of a fun, fast-paced, and collaborative legal team working together on novel legal issues.
Responsibilities
- Have direct responsibility over all aspects of litigation matters, including drafting briefs, managing e-discovery, personally taking and defending depositions, and preparing and conducting trials
- Analyze and assess potential litigation risks and identify creative solutions to legal problems
- Represent Tesla in court as part of Tesla's in-house litigation team
- Drive litigation strategy
- Counsel the business to minimize litigation and regulatory exposure
- Oversee and partner with outside counsel in select litigation matters, including matters covered by Tesla's insurance
- Run a wide range of different legal matters, with a focus on handling litigation matters directly
Requirements
- 5+ years litigation experience, preferably including experience at a top-tier law firm or in the government as a regulator or federal prosecutor, and preferably with significant experience handling trials, hearings, depositions, arbitrations, and mediations
- Experience in multiple categories of litigation including insurance defense, class actions, and contractual disputes
- Juris Doctor Degree with excellent academic credentials
- Excellent analytical and writing skills
- Business-savvy, creative approach to problem-solving
- Evidence of exceptional ability
