Key job responsibilities
This role sits within Amazon’s Operations Legal team in India, supporting four business verticals: Workplace Health & Safety, Analytics Risk & Compliance, Sustainability, and Human Rights & Social Impact. As a trusted legal advisor, you will:

1. Advise on occupational health and safety obligations covering people on site, drivers, and vehicles across Amazon’s operations network in India.

2. Identify compliance requirements and restrictions related to the movement of goods via air, rail, and other networks, engaging with regulatory authorities such as Indian Railways and the DGCA.

3. Provide guidance on laws governing the storage and transportation of regulated products - including food, drugs & cosmetics, medical devices, chemicals, and hazardous substances - and support compliance with applicable product safety standards.

4. Advocate for Amazon’s sustainability and environment charters, ensuring operations meet environmental commitments within the legal framework.

5. Support cross-functional teams on initiatives under Amazon’s Supplier Code of Conduct and social responsibility charter.

The role requires working cross-functionally with technical teams to implement compliance strategy, advise on regulatory changes, support adoption of global policies in India, and counsel compliance partners on day-to-day issues. You will also handle pre-litigation disputes, coordinate with outside counsel, and identify process improvement opportunities.

A day in the life
This role requires you to be enthusiastic, pragmatic, curious, and comfortable navigating ambiguity with sound judgment and practical risk calibration. On any given day, you will:

- Partner with technical and business teams to develop and implement compliance strategies across safety, product, transport, and sustainability domains. Track regulatory changes, assess their legal implications, and advise stakeholders proactively.

- Serve as a go-to legal resource for compliance partner teams on routine operational questions.

- Identify opportunities for process improvements and support their implementation to drive operational efficiency.

- Support the adoption and implementation of Amazon’s global policies and procedures in India.

About the team
This position is based in Bangalore and reports to the Senior Manager - Legal, India Operations. This is an individual contributor role. This role gives you an opportunity to join a collaborative, tight-knit team that is pioneering exciting initiatives as part of a business that is making history. Some travel, domestic and international, will be required.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Law
  • Ability to work with limited direction, exercise sound judgment, and manage discrete compliance matters as a single-threaded owner
  • Bachelor's degree in Law
  • 6+ years of Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG) Law experience; with 8-12 years of inhouse legal or law firm experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience managing multiple projects, prioritizing, planning, and managing time
  • Can distill complex legal issues into clear, concise business guidance
  • A mix of law firm and in-house experience with exposure to workplace health & safety, product compliance, sustainability, or transport regulatory domains
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to be a trusted partner to business stakeholders
  • Genuine interest in developing expertise in product compliance, sustainability, and social responsibility domains
