Construction Project Manager, Special Projects
Description
We are looking for a Construction Project Manager to own construction delivery for Special Projects, from tender through what happens on site to handover. You will report to the Manager, Infrastructure – Special Projects and work with the Technical Program Manager, Design Manager and Engineering Manager. This role holds both sides of the job: contract, cost, schedule and change, and daily site execution, safety and quality. You keep the work in time and in budget, and you are the person contractors, inspectors and end users deal with while it is being built. You run several projects, you resolve technical barriers, and you do not wait to be told that the work is off the drawing or off the plan. You also set the construction standard and make sure scopes are closed out, including to Green Tag where that Tesla handover process applies.
This role is based in Tilburg, Netherlands. That is a requirement. You are on site, not in a remote office. A high percentage of time in the field is part of the job. Travel to other project sites in EMEA is expected.
Responsibilities
- Own construction delivery for concurrent projects: schedule, cost, quality and safety, from tender through handover
- Lead daily site execution: sequence, access, logistics and coordination between trades, in line with the approved design and any approved change
- Lead tender and change control with Procurement: biddable packages, bid checks, and no unapproved or unfunded change in the field
- Give design input during reviews, review drawings for constructability, and close field issues with Design and Engineering without unauthorized design change
- Lead Environment, Health & Safety (EHS) and quality on site, including stop-work authority, hold points and Tesla site processes
- Report schedule variances the same day, with cause, commercial impact and recovery, and keep labor, materials and access off the critical path
- Close commissioning and handover, including contractor documentation and Blue Tag / Green Tag where that process applies, and report the plan and the risk to leadership
- Represent Tesla with local authorities, neighbors and inspectors during construction
Requirements
- Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree in Construction, Engineering or Architecture, or evidence of exceptional experience
- A strong, demonstrable record of both running a technical or industrial site and owning construction cost, schedule and contract
- Advanced to expert command of site management, construction methods, scheduling, cost control and bidding
- Sound commercial judgment, and the authority to stop unsafe work. Able to read drawings and hold a contractor to them
- High proficiency in Microsoft Excel and in Autodesk tools, and willing to spend a high percentage of time on site
- Fluent English is required. Dutch is strongly preferred. German is a plus
