Camera Module Lead
Description
Tesla is seeking an experienced Camera Module Lead to drive the design, development, and mass production of advanced camera modules for Tesla’s vehicle and robotics platforms. This role requires end-to-end ownership of camera module design, from concept through manufacturing, with a focus on automotive and robotics grade performance, reliability, and cost optimization. The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise in automotive and/or robotic imaging technologies, strong vendor relationships, and a proven track record of delivering high-volume products.
Responsibilities
- Lead end-to-end camera module design from concept through mass production, including requirements definition, design architecture, prototyping, and manufacturing scale-up
- Define and drive camera module specifications, performance targets, and quality standards aligned with automotive and robotic safety and functional requirements
- Perform tolerance analysis and work cross functionally to perform structural, thermal and optical simulations before releasing designs for production
- Develop 2D drawings and 3D CAD appropriate for high-volume production and inspection methods
- Conduct Design for Manufacturing (DFM) reviews with suppliers and support tooling bring up
- Establish and manage relationships with camera module vendors, lens suppliers, and sensor manufacturers to ensure quality, cost, and delivery targets
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including electrical engineering, software, thermal, and manufacturing to integrate camera modules into vehicle platforms
- Conduct design reviews, failure analysis, and design optimization to achieve performance, reliability, and cost targets
- Manage supplier quality, including design reviews, process audits, and corrective action implementation
- Drive continuous improvement in camera module performance, manufacturing efficiency, and cost reduction throughout production lifecycle
Requirements
- 7+ years of experience in camera module design with a proven track record of end-to-end product development through mass production in automotive or consumer electronics
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Imaging Science or related field, or equivalent experience
- Deep understanding of automotive or robotic camera requirements, performance standards, and environmental specifications
- Experience with fixed and auto-focus technologies
- Experience with supplier quality management, design reviews, and manufacturing process optimization

Expected Compensation
$91,600 - $234,000/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefitsPay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
