Description

The CAD Designer is responsible for providing 3D and 2D CAD and modeling support to the mechanical engineering test team, contributing to the design of automated and manual test equipment for various Tesla products. The role involves creating detailed drawings for parts and assemblies, designing end effectors and testers, tracking redlines, and establishing and reviewing CAD standards and best practices. The CAD Designer plays a key role in enabling the test team to develop reliable, high-quality test solutions across a broad range of products and applications.

Responsibilities

  • Support engineers by transforming engineering ideas to high quality CAD models
  • Create detail assembly 3D models and 2D drawings for large equipment
  • Generate part drawings for machine shops and equipment building vendors following engineering standards
  • Vigilantly track redlines and modifications, ensuring the accuracy of digital twins for all equipment and machinery
  • Use CAD models to create detail BOMs for equipment to ensure both BOM and CAD models are up to date
  • Maintain teamwide PDM/PLM system
  • Sustain macros and templates to improve team workflow and efficiency
  • Help prepare machinery maintenance and service manuals and spare part kits

Requirements

  • Over 3 years or 1000 hours of proven expertise using CAD software preferably SolidWorks, within a professional context
  • Demonstrated proficiency in 3D modeling and 2D drafting, particularly for intricate, large-scale machinery
  • Familiarity with GD&T principles, reading, interpreting, and applying
  • Accomplished in generating comprehensive technical drawings and documentation for automated equipment
  • Well-versed in utilizing PDM/PLM systems to streamline processes
  • Proficient in popular MS Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams)
  • Exposure to, and hands-on experience with diverse test systems and instruments, production machinery, and an array of industrial sensors and equipment preferred e.g., pogo-pins, pressure transducers, temperature controllers, current meters
  • Familiarity with reading electrical and fluid schematics preferred
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD, AutoCAD Electrical, EPlan software packages
  • Associate’s degree in a technical field, or equivalent proven experience

Expected Compensation

  • Engineering Tech I - $23.41 - $35.11/hour
  • Engineering Tech II - $25.78 - $38.68/hour
  • Engineering Tech III - $30.80 - $46.20/hour
  • Engineering Tech IV - $35.20 - $52.80/hour
  • Engineering Tech V - $43.12 - $64.68/hour

Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered.
