Business Analyst, Worldwide Grocery Sustainability

Amazon Worldwide Grocery is seeking a Sustainability Business Analyst to help support progress toward Grocery and Amazon’s sustainability goals. The Sustainability Business Analyst will help measure, enable, and substantiate Worldwide Grocery sustainability efforts, as well as support and provide necessary data and programmatic support for shared sustainability goals with centralized Amazon partner teams. This person will play a key role on our Sustainability team and support the work of the greater Amazon Worldwide Grocery Stores business unit. The ideal candidate is curious and adaptable, possessing knowledge and experience with critical analysis and data deep dives, with interest in sustainability.

Key job responsibilities
This role supports subject matter experts (SMEs) across climate, nature, waste, packaging, supply chain standards, and social responsibility by:
  • Maintaining integrity and improving rigor of data across subject matter areas to support various regulatory requirements
  • Measuring footprints and key metrics and managing methodologies
  • Providing feasibility analysis of programs and business cases
  • Supporting with Amazon third-party assurance processes for footprints, including documenting methodologies, answering auditor questions, and providing data samples
  • Providing ad-hoc project-specific analysis and deep-dives
  • Supporting projects programmatically
  • Interfacing with centralized Amazon and other BU sustainability teams to share appropriate Worldwide Grocery sustainability data and insights
  • Collaborating with Business Intelligence Engineering (BIE) and program contacts across Worldwide Grocery and Worldwide Sustainability teams
A day in the life
This role owns the environmental data infrastructure that underpins Amazon's and Whole Foods Market's sustainability commitments, progress, and strategy. This person will spearhead recurring reporting which informs year-over-year strategy and program development, identifies hotspots and improvement opportunities across sustainability pillars, and enables pan-Amazon aggregation of shared impact areas to accelerate cross-business collaboration and action. Example projects include:

Recurring Reporting

Climate: Monthly and annual carbon footprint submissions, including data maintenance and methodology stewardship; biodiversity commodities data updates on a defined cadence

Waste: Monthly Operational Waste and Food Waste submissions to Global Dashboards; annual ReFED US Food Waste Pact data submission (Q4)

Packaging: Food Service and Private Brand packaging footprint reporting (Q1)

Impact Reporting: Annual metrics calculation and data substantiation for Amazon and Whole Foods Market sustainability reports

Strategic Analysis

Beyond reporting, this person will also translates data into actionable insights that shape specific program investment and operational decisions:

Model financial and plastic reduction impact of sustainable packaging roadmap options to inform prioritization

Assess food waste deployment needs based on food waste volume, space constraints, and current waste service costs

Forecast carbon, waste, and packaging glidepaths to 2030 aligned to updated 10-Year Financial plan

Analyze impact of Too Good To Go and Enjoy Today programs on food donation volumes and diversion rates

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent
  • Experience defining requirements and using data and metrics to draw business insights
  • Experience in Excel (macros, index, conditional list, arrays, pivots, lookups)
  • Experience with SQL or ETL
  • Experience coordinating between technical teams, peers and business stakeholders
  • Experience working proactively and independently, meeting deadlines, and delivering on projects and tasks
  • Strong interest in sustainability topics
  • Experience measuring and tracking KPIs, building data quality checks, and identifying process automation opportunities

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience using very large datasets
  • Experience with reporting and Data Visualization tools such as Quick Sight / Tableau / Power BI or other BI packages
  • Experience in sustainability
  • Experience working with centralized Amazon teams, stakeholders, and systems

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
