We are looking for a highly motivated BMS Product Definer Engineer to join our Product Definition & System Architecture team and contribute to the development of the next generation of Battery Management ICs, chipsets, and system solutions.
Position Overview
The BMS Product Definer Engineer is responsible for translating market opportunities, customer requirements, and future technology trends into product requirements and product specifications for NXP's Battery Management portfolio.
You will work at the intersection of customers, applications engineering, system architecture, marketing, validation, safety, software, and IC development teams to define innovative products that address emerging needs in:
- Electric Vehicles (EV)
- Hybrid Vehicles (HEV/PHEV)
- Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS)
- AI Data Centers
- Robotics
- Industrial Electrification
- Software Defined Vehicles (SDV)
- Intelligent Edge Battery Systems
The role requires a strong combination of system-level thinking, customer engagement, technical understanding, market awareness, and cross-functional leadership.
Key Responsibilities
Product Definition
- Define next-generation BMS semiconductor products, chipsets, and reference architectures.
- Create and maintain Product Requirement Documents (PRDs), Functional Specifications, and Use Case Definitions.
- Translate customer requirements into actionable product requirements and feature sets.
- Analyze technical and commercial trade-offs including performance, safety, power consumption, die size, cost, scalability, and development effort.
- Drive requirement decomposition from system-level needs into subsystem and IC-level requirements.
- Secure alignment between product requirements and available technology, IPs, project schedules, and business objectives.
Customer and Market Engagement
- Engage directly with key OEMs, Tier-1 suppliers, Battery Manufacturers, System Integrators, and Energy Infrastructure providers.
- Support the collection, analysis, and prioritization of customer requirements and market feedback.
- Support strategic customer engagements, RFIs, RFQs, and design-win activities.
- Identify unmet customer needs and transform them into differentiated product features.
- Participate in customer workshops and roadmap alignment activities.
Product Strategy and Roadmap
- Contribute to the long-term BMS product roadmap.
- Monitor market trends, regulatory developments, and competitor offerings.
- Benchmark competing solutions from semiconductor vendors, OEM-developed systems, and emerging startups.
- Identify gaps in the current portfolio and propose future product directions.
- Drive innovation opportunities
System Architecture Collaboration
- Work closely with System Architects to define end-to-end BMS solutions.
- Evaluate emerging architectures and perform design-space exploration.
- Support architecture trade-off analysis across hardware, software, communications, diagnostics, and safety.
Required Qualifications
Education
- BSEE, Electronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or equivalent required.
- MSEE preferred.
Experience
- 5+ years of experience in:
- Product Definition
- Systems Engineering
- Semiconductor Product Development
- Battery Management Systems
- Electrification Technologies
- Experience working with:
- Automotive OEMs
- Tier-1 Suppliers
- Battery Manufacturers
- Semiconductor Companies
- Industrial Energy Storage Providers
Experience in customer-facing technical roles is highly desirable.
Technical Skills

- Strong knowledge of Battery Management Systems.
- Understanding of battery technologies and battery pack architectures.
- Experience with:
- Cell and pack monitoring
