We’re seeking an experienced Audio Engineer for our Austin-based Production Services team. This role provides audio engineering support for Apple’s Austin theater spaces, delivering technical excellence for internal meetings and events that keep employees connected through in-person, virtual, and hybrid experiences.

Description

Working on the Production Services team to support teams across Apple, the Audio Engineer sets and maintains the highest production standards while leading the local audio crews and vendor partners. The primary function of this role is hands-on audio operation for events and remote productions. Production Services teams are intentionally small and cross-disciplinary — while audio is the primary focus of this role, we value engineers who are naturally curious with a continuous need to learn. You should want to grow across video, streaming, stage management, and other production disciplines. Success in this role requires deep technical expertise, meticulous preparation, and calm execution in executive-facing environments with zero margin for error. You’ll work directly with senior leaders and their teams — from micing up executives minutes before a live event to coordinating logistics with non-technical support staff. Poise, discretion, and clear communication are as critical as technical skill.

Responsibilities

  • Mix and supervise live audio for executive presentations, comms meetings, and broadcast productions.
  • Partner with audio engineers across Production Services — including Austin, SCV, and Seattle — to design, configure, operate, and maintain audio systems, ensuring consistent standards across all venues.
  • Set up and maintain PA, RF, intercom, and playback in alignment with Production Services standards.
  • Operate and support digital mixing platforms including SSL and Yamaha
  • Design, deploy, and manage Dante-based audio networks, including redundancy, QoS, and monitoring — coordinating with audio engineers at other sites to maintain consistency.
  • Maintain and operate theater and remote production sound systems.
  • Ensure systems are aligned, tuned, and documented with signal flow diagrams — production ready ahead of every event.
  • Provide hands-on audio operation for events and remote productions as required.
  • Monitor audio quality in real time, ensuring intelligibility, tonal balance, latency control, and broadcast readiness.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve audio issues quickly and calmly during rehearsals and live events.
  • Ensure seamless integration between in-venue audio systems, broadcast audio paths, intercom, and show control.
  • Serve as a direct point of contact with senior leaders and executive support teams, providing clear, professional communication in high-stakes and time-sensitive environments.
  • Collaborate closely with Transmission, Video Engineering, Production teams, and cross-functional partners.
  • Step in to support video engineering, streaming, and other production workflows as needed — we operate as a cross-trained team where versatility is valued alongside specialization.
  • Support special events, remote video shoots, and studio-style productions.
  • Record, edit, and master audio content as needed.
  • Contribute to equipment budgets, forecasts, and technical recommendations.
  • This role requires up to 25% travel, including domestic and international, based on project needs.
  • Flexibility is required; this role may exceed 40 hours per week during peak production periods.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 7+ years of proven experience supporting large-scale productions, touring, or medium to large size performance theaters or amphitheaters.
  • Proficient in console bussing and complex routing — groups, auxiliaries, matrices, and mix-minus — with the ability to maintain signal integrity across multiple output paths.
  • Demonstrated expertise in television, theatrical, concert, and event audio mixing.
  • Solid A2 background with proven expertise in micing talent, managing RF frequencies, and deploying comms systems in live, executive-facing production environments.
  • Deep knowledge of signal flow and system design, including both analog and networked audio paths such as Dante and AVB
  • Thorough understanding of acoustics and audio device selection and placement.
  • Proven ability to work directly and professionally with senior executives, presenters, and non-technical stakeholders in high-pressure, live production settings.
  • Willingness to develop skills beyond audio — interest in video engineering, broadcast workflows, or adjacent production disciplines.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in corporate or executive-facing production environments where discretion, composure, and interpersonal skills are essential.
  • Clear communicator with the ability to translate technical concepts for non-technical audiences — comfortable fielding questions from executive admin, event producers, and senior staff.
  • Experience with immersive and spatial audio systems.
  • Strong understanding of audio networking, including Dante, redundancy, and system design.
  • Advanced experience with SSL System T and Yamaha Rivage digital mixing consoles.
  • Strong knowledge of ClearCom and Riedel comms systems.
  • Ability to create and modify system line drawings, including signal flow diagrams and I/O documentation for production venues.
  • Commitment to safe work practices and high production standards.
  • Track record of working on small, collaborative teams where roles flex based on production needs.
