Audio Engineer 2

Overview We are seeking a full-time Audio Engineer 2 at Garmin's Miramar/South Florida site. In this role, you will be responsible for developing moderately complex loudspeaker solutions and utilizing CAD or Simulation software to model loudspeaker parts, test and validate, complete technology explorations and/or deliver to mass production. Essential Functions Interface with Electrical Engineers, Industrial Designers, and Process Engineers to negotiate basic tradeoffs between manufacturing, appearance, and performance Communicate effectively with vendors that produce custom mechanical parts as required Possess knowledge of injection molding, die casting, sheet metal stamping, vacuum forming, machining processes, etc. Demonstrate proficient knowledge of preferred part materials for basic part production and performance Demonstrate familiarity with industry and Garmin product qualification tests (environmental and others) Work collaboratively and professionally on cross functional teams to achieve goals Provide reliable solutions to a variety of problems using creativity and sound problem solving techniques Serve as a mentor to less experienced Audio Engineers (Audio Engineer 1) Apply a sense of urgency, ownership and focus on the right priorities to develop solutions in a timely fashion Associates are expected to integrate, use, and provide feedback on products in development when possible as part of their normal job responsibilities ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS FOR SPECIFIC FOCUS AREAS: Complete moderately complex loudspeaker designs for Garmin or OEM products Specify requirements, model (through CAD design and FEA) and source loudspeaker parts such as cone assemblies (cone + surround), dust caps, spiders, voice coils, shorting rings, magnets, top plates, t-yokes, terminals, tinsel wires, speaker frames, etc. Collaborate and add value through participation in design reviews, providing comments and suggestions on loudspeaker designs Conduct in-depth listening test to qualify loudspeaker designs Make estimates on tooling, part cost and design time for moderately complex loudspeaker designs Specify test plans to validate moderately complex loudspeaker systems Basic Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering or Aerospace Engineering AND a minimum of 1 year of relevant experience OR an equivalent combination of education and experience Excellent academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 as a general rule) Demonstrates knowledge of CAD software and the ability to model moderately complex parts Demonstrates proficient knowledge and utilization of engineering tools necessary for successful performance of the essential functions of this job description Demonstrated strong and effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills Garmin Cochrane Location: Eligible for registration as an Engineer in Training (EIT) or Professional Engineer (P. Eng) in Alberta Desired Qualifications Previous work or internship experience in design, particularly for consumer products Previous experience working in a team environment Outstanding academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.5) Mechanical systems repair or troubleshooting experience Experience using SolidWorks CAD software Garmin International is an equal opportunity employer.
