Description

Tesla is seeking an Associate Manager, Process Engineering to lead process engineering for crystalline silicon manufacturing at a massive 100 GW scale. Reporting to the Production Engineering Manager, you will own day-to-day process performance, yield, and quality for an assigned area - Ingot, Wafer, or Cell, depending on experience. You will lead process engineers and technicians to define and hold process windows, resolve yield and quality issues, and deliver stable, high-output manufacturing during greenfield launch and ramp. This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who thrives on data-driven process control, develops technical people, and improves both First and Last Pass yield. This role is core to Tesla's mission of accelerating the world's transition to amazing abundance.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of process engineers and technicians across shifts to hit yield, quality, throughput, and process-stability goals
  • During greenfield launch and ramp, own process performance for assigned unit operations such as Czochralski crystal pulling, diamond wire saw slicing, texturing, wafer cleaning, thin film deposition, screen printing, and laser operations
  • Own and maintain process control basics for the area - process windows, control plans, PFMEA inputs, recipe discipline, and reaction plans - so production is robust and repeatable
  • Lead structured responses to process and quality issues using data, DOE, and root cause analysis
  • Track and report key process metrics including yield, scrap, defect modes, Cp/Cpk where applicable, cycle time, and OEE process contribution
  • Partner with Equipment Engineering, Production, Quality, and NPI on process changes, new product/process introductions, tool matching, and change control
  • Enforce safety protocols in process areas, support incident investigations to root cause, and develop team capability through coaching, feedback, and hands-on training

Requirements

  • Degree in Engineering, Materials Science, Physics, Chemical Engineering, or equivalent experience
  • 7+ years in process engineering or process engineering leadership in semiconductor, solar, battery, or related high-volume precision manufacturing
  • Experience leading engineers and/or technicians in a fast-paced, multi-shift manufacturing environment
  • Familiarity with crystalline silicon process families such as crystal pulling, wafering, wet process/texturing/cleaning, deposition, screen printing, and laser operations
  • Strong understanding of production and process metrics including yield, scrap, process capability, machine availability impacts, OEE, and cycle time
  • Hands-on fluency with SPC, DOE, root cause analysis, PFMEA/control plans, and MES or equivalent production data systems; proven ability to drive accountability through a technical team
  • Ability to work cross-functionally with Equipment Engineering, Production, Maintenance, Quality, and Supply Chain; capability and willingness to travel domestically and internationally (more during build, less during HVM and sustaining)
