Associate Manager, Cell Quality Lab
Description
Tesla is looking for a Lab Associate Manager to lead a large team of analytical lab & incoming quality technicians & supervisors with a mission to provide high quality for analysis & inspection results for cell production in our Texas factory. The Associate Manager will oversee all day-to-day lab operations to support manufacturing activities and execute our quality control plan inspections. They will utilize their lab operations experience to coordinate inspections, testing, and validation of our products and processes.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate with engineering teams to define and execute analytical lab & incoming quality controls plans across all cell manufacturing operations, and manage incoming quality validations and coordinate with supply chain teams and suppliers to continually improve incoming material quality
- Manage quality laboratory tools and equipment, including SEMs, ICP, FTIR, TGA’s, and other high-precision measurement analytical equipment
- Troubleshoot common equipment issues, work with external vendors for non-trivial problems, and assist with test methods development, validation, and handover
- Work with quality engineering and production teams to resolve ongoing or systemic quality operations issues, and develop, coordinate, and execute lab OCAP procedures
- Onboard, mentor, and develop a large team of technicians & supervisors
- Define and drive KPIs and objectives and communicate along with key issues to executive leadership
- Tesla people leaders are responsible for a variety of Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) assurance functions, including ensuring their teams’ safety training is current, documenting EHS incidents, proactively correcting workplace hazards in the areas, and empowering others to continuously improve operations
Requirements
- Degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Material Science, or equivalent experience
- 4+ years of experience in high-volume manufacturing, within analytical lab operations and 2+ years of leadership experience including leading other leaders (supervisors or other managers)
- Proven ability to build and lead a strong team in a 24x7 manufacturing environment
- Demonstrated knowledge of key analytical lab principles, ability to organize and prioritize in highly dynamic production environment
- Able to work well under pressure while managing competing demands and tight deadlines while also remaining engaged, proactive, and positive in tough circumstances
- Strong organizational skills with meticulous attention to detail, combined with excellent interpersonal skills and a proven ability to communicate effectively across all business levels and functions
- Must have command of the English language, both written and verbal
