Associate Facilities Operations and Maintenance Manager, Plant Operations
Description
Tesla’s Valley Operations team operates and maintains numerous facilities exceeding 4.2 million square feet of manufacturing and warehouse space, supporting products of the future — overseeing the design, implementation, maintenance, and operation of large-scale equipment and utility systems that keep manufacturing running. As the Associate Facilities Operations and Maintenance Manager on the Plant Operations team, you will lead daily facilities operations, maintenance and utilities execution in our valley corridor (Pleasanton to Lathrop, CA).
You will be the liaison between production stakeholders, technicians, and supervisors for equipment maintenance, internal construction, work orders, project scheduling, and other factory logistical needs. This is a hands-on leadership role: develop the team, drive reliability of critical plant systems, and keep the factory and other facilities safe, available, and compliant.
Responsibilities
- Lead, coach, and develop a multi-discipline team of technicians, leads, managers, and engineers — including training, work delegation, problem resolution, and on-shift execution of PMs, SOPs, and job plans — supporting operational manufacturing facilities in a safe, reliable, and cost-effective manner
- Own work assignment and tracking through CMMS; lead preventive and corrective maintenance, work-order processing, spare-parts readiness, and troubleshooting across site utilities — HVAC and mechanical (AHUs, MAUs, RTUs, boilers, chillers, cooling towers, compressed air, exhaust, chilled water), electrical distribution (switchgear, transformers, lighting), water systems (treatment), and instrumentation and controls
- Identify building improvements and equipment modifications that improve safety, reliability, maintainability, and operability; generate and implement corrective action plans for repairs, replacements, and modifications
- Drive root-cause investigations and failure-analysis reporting on equipment and system failures; act as incident commander for facility excursions and on-shift escalations, and serve as first point of contact for issues that arise
- Manage contractor relationships — scope, performance, feedback during negotiations, and monitoring of renewal dates and clauses — while building in-house capability to minimize contractor dependence
- Coordinate projects with design, construction, operations, maintenance, and production leads, including building changes, expansions, and modifications
- Develop and manage the annual operations and maintenance budget, and drive compliance with site and corporate EHS requirements and with local and federal regulations, including California mechanical and building codes
Requirements
- 5+ years of plant operations and maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment (automotive, battery, semiconductor, solar, or equivalent industrial facilities)
- 5+ years of experience leading people — technicians, leads, and/or supervisors — with a demonstrated ability to train, coach, and hold the team to standard
- Strong working knowledge of applicable codes and regulations (OSHA, NFPA 70E, LOTO, California mechanical and building codes)
- Technical depth across industrial HVAC/mechanical, electrical distribution, and/or process utilities; CMMS experience required
- Demonstrated organizational and communication skills with employees, contractors, and senior leadership, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment under constantly changing priorities and demands
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or related field, or equivalent experience
- Ability to work and support nights, weekends, and off-shift as needed to support a 24/7 factory
