Associate Counsel, Product & Privacy
Scopely is currently looking for an Associate Counsel, Product & Privacy to join our legal team in our Barcelona hub on a hybrid basis. You will report to the Senior Director located in Barcelona and will work at the intersection of several game teams (including Marketing, Engineering, Art, User Acquisition, Player Experience, Community teams), QA, Infosec and other legal and business functions across our fast paced mobile games business. This is a highly collaborative role for someone who is comfortable managing a broad portfolio, connecting people and issues across teams, and finding practical solutions in an environment where priorities move quickly.
What You Will Do:
- Serve as day to day product counsel for multiple game teams of diverse genres, advising on new game features, in game events, launches, live operations, product changes, and other player facing initiatives
- Advise on marketing and advertising matters across several titles of the Scopely portfolio, including campaigns, user acquisition, CRM communications, community initiatives, advertising claims, and player facing disclosures
- Lead legal support for tournaments, contests, sweepstakes, and other promotions, including structure, rules, communications, international considerations, and related intellectual property and rights of publicity issues
- Support strategic intellectual property counseling for supported games and portfolio initiatives, partnering early with business teams on naming and brand strategy, launches and rebrands, trademark strategy, copyright, licensing, third party content, asset and font clearance, rights of publicity, portfolio protection, and infringement matters
- Support senior Product & Privacy counsel on EU regulatory initiatives affecting video games, including research, impact assessments, implementation, and cross functional coordination
- Respond to routine privacy and data protection questions and identify issues that require escalation, working closely with Scopely's dedicated Privacy specialists on more complex or technical matters
- Develop proactive, practical guidance for business teams, including training, guidelines, templates, and other scalable resources on marketing, advertising, intellectual property, promotions, and consumer protection topics
- Identify opportunities to simplify and improve recurring legal work through better processes, standardization, automation, and the responsible use of AI tools, while also supporting broader Product Legal and regulatory initiatives across the portfolio
What You Will Need:
- Minimum 3 years of legal experience at a law firm and/or technology, entertainment, gaming, or other consumer facing company advising on intellectual property, marketing, advertising, consumer protection, and product matters
- Strong practical experience with marketing and advertising review and intellectual property matters, including promotions, trademarks, copyright, and asset clearance
- Working knowledge of privacy and data protection requirements, sufficient to handle routine questions, identify risk, and recognize when specialist input is needed
- Bachelor's degree, MSc preferred (or equivalent)
- Excellent verbal and written fluency in English (Spanish is a plus)
- Exceptional organizational, communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trusted relationships, connect stakeholders across functions, and manage multiple priorities, deadlines, and time zones in a fast paced environment
- A problem solving mindset and a track record of taking ownership, exercising sound judgment, balancing legal risk with product and business needs, and approaching new technology with curiosity, including an eagerness to use AI tools and improve how legal work gets done
Desired:
- Experience working with global teams across multiple time zones
- Experience working with mobile game developers, digital products, entertainment, or other consumer facing businesses, and familiarity with legal issues particular to the gaming industry
- Experience with legal operations, process improvement, automation, or AI enabled legal workflows
- Sense of humor and a passion for mobile gaming
