TrendAI™, the global AI security leader and enterprise business unit of Trend Micro, empowers organizations with full AI visibility and consolidated security that inspires confidence, drives innovation, and eliminates risk.

At TrendAI™, we’re always seeking exceptional talent; people who want to collaborate with the best and push boundaries together. Here, your work goes beyond building a career. You will help protect what matters and play a vital role in shaping a safer, more trustworthy AI-powered future.

AI Fearlessly.

OUR CULTURE

We hire for capability and potential — not credentials alone. At TrendAI, you get real access: to senior people, to genuinely hard problems, and to work that actually moves things forward. You will have a voice, an opinion, and the freedom to use both and to be the best part of yourself.

JOINING TRENDAI ON ITS AI NATIVE JOURNEY

TrendAI is on a deliberate path to become a fully AI Native company. This means rebuilding how we think, how we build, and how we operate, with AI at the foundation rather than bolted on at the edges.

If you join now, you are not walking into something already figured out — you are joining at the moment it is being built. The skills you develop here will make you genuinely formidable in one of the most in-demand areas in tech. The people who join at this stage will have had a hand in shaping what TrendAI becomes. That is a rare thing.

YOUR INTERNSHIP

This is a paid 8-month work placement where you will join TrendAI's Applied AI Engineering team and contribute to real products with real users — writing code, running experiments, and shipping things that matter. You will have a defined project to own, structured support from experienced engineers and business professionals, and a mentor throughout your placement.

You will also take part in our Career Success Ready Programme — designed to support you and to set you up for a successful career, not just to get through the placement.

We have a strong track record of converting placements into graduate roles. Over the last five years, 82% of our intern graduates have gone on to join us permanently. There may also be opportunities to travel to other European offices and work with colleagues from across the globe — we have 27 different nationalities in our Cork Operations Centre.

The ROLE

No two placements look exactly the same. We will shape your experience around where you are strongest and where you want to grow. You might work across:

  • Agentic AI & LLM integration — Build features using LLM APIs (Azure OpenAI, Anthropic). Experiment with prompt engineering, RAG patterns, tool-calling, and agentic workflows using LangChain and LangGraph.
  • AI application development — Contribute to live internal applications: building backend APIs, integrating AI components, handling data, and shipping features end-to-end under senior guidance.
  • Data & retrieval — Work with vector databases and embedding pipelines that power intelligent search and retrieval in our products.
  • Tool & service integration — Help connect AI agents to internal systems, APIs, and data sources. Understand how agents interact with the world around them.
  • MLOps & pipelines — Learn how production AI systems are maintained — monitoring, versioning, CI/CD, and what it means to keep something running reliably.
  • Research & experimentation — Stay current with the field. Contribute to internal proof-of-concept work and share findings with the team.
  • Collaboration — Work with engineers, product managers, and business stakeholders. Communicate results clearly and ask good questions.

TECHNOLOGY YOU WILL USE

AI & orchestration: Python · LangChain · LangGraph · Azure OpenAI · Anthropic API

Data & retrieval: PostgreSQL / pgvector · pandas · NumPy · SQL

Backend & infra: FastAPI · Docker · GitHub Actions · Azure Cloud

Dev tools: VS Code · GitHub Copilot · Claude Code · Git

Collaboration: Jira · Confluence · Microsoft Teams

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

  • Currently enrolled in a bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Software Engineering, or a related STEM discipline — and eligible to undertake a work placement as part of your course.
  • Foundational Python skills and genuine enthusiasm for writing clean, well-structured code.
  • Some exposure to machine learning or AI concepts — coursework, personal projects, Kaggle, or online learning. What matters is that you have engaged with it in practice, not just read about it.
  • Curiosity about large language models and frontier AI. Any hands-on experimentation — even small personal projects or API experiments — is a meaningful plus.
  • Basic CS fundamentals: data structures, algorithms, and an understanding of how software systems fit together.
  • Some awareness of how backend systems and APIs work — or a strong desire to learn. Frontend curiosity (React, TypeScript) is a bonus but not required.
  • A collaborative, approachable team player who is comfortable asking questions and contributing ideas.
  • Clear communicator — strong written and spoken English, comfortable talking to both technical and non-technical people.
  • Motivated to learn fast, structured in your thinking, and honest about what you know and what you don't.

If you want a placement where you will actually build things, grow fast, and work on technology that matters — TrendAI is for you.
