Applications Engineering, Staff Engineer
Job Description and Requirements
We Are
Synopsys is the leader in engineering solutions from silicon to systems, enabling customers to rapidly innovate AI-powered products. We deliver industry-leading silicon design, IP, simulation and analysis solutions, and design services. We partner closely with our customers across a wide range of industries to maximize their R&D capability and productivity, powering innovation today that ignites the ingenuity of tomorrow.
You Are
You have spent years deep in the realities of chip design, where a power integrity issue at 3nm can cost months and millions, and you have learned that the gap between a tool that works in theory and one that closes timing on a real SoC is everything. You think in terms of deployment, not demos. You know what it takes to get an EDA solution from product spec to production use at a top semiconductor company, and you care about making that path shorter and cleaner every time.
You are comfortable sitting with a customer architect who is three weeks from tapeout, diagnosing a signal integrity failure, and walking out with a plan that actually works. You do not wait for perfect documentation. You dig into the design, ask the right questions, and move. You have worked across ASIC physical design, power or signal integrity closure, or custom circuit simulation, and you understand how those worlds connect when you are trying to ship silicon that actually functions.
At Synopsys, you will work with the Ansys EDA portfolio, deploy it at companies building the most advanced chips in the world, and help shape what the tools become next.
What You'll Be Doing
- Deploy Synopsys Ansys EDA products at top semiconductor companies working on leading-edge SoCs and 3DICs at 7nm, 5nm, and 3nm nodes
- Work directly with global customers, IP providers, and foundries to understand design challenges around power integrity, signal integrity, reliability (EM, ESD, thermal), advanced timing, jitter, and packaging
- Collaborate with software developers, architects, and product specialists to translate customer challenges into EDA product specifications and drive product development
- Use the Ansys Seascape platform to solve big-data design challenges across chip, package, and system levels
- Provide expert technical guidance and consultation to customers globally, helping them close power, signal, and reliability issues on real designs
- Diagnose complex design failures, reproduce issues, and work with engineering teams to deliver solutions that hold up in production
- Travel occasionally to customer sites for deployment support, technical reviews, and design problem-solving
The Impact You Will Have
- Enable the world's leading semiconductor companies to tape out chips at 7nm, 5nm, and 3nm by solving power, signal, and reliability challenges they cannot close without your expertise
- Shape the next generation of Synopsys Ansys EDA tools by feeding real customer pain points directly into product development
- Reduce time to closure for customers facing critical design bottlenecks, turning weeks of debug into days with the right deployment and guidance
- Build long-term technical relationships with architects and design teams at top-tier semiconductor companies, becoming their trusted resource for advanced node challenges
- Drive adoption of the Seascape platform across the industry, proving out its value on real, complex designs
- Influence foundry and IP provider roadmaps by surfacing design trends and tool gaps you see across multiple customer engagements
- Mentor application engineers and expand the team's collective expertise in power integrity, signal integrity, and reliability at scale
What You'll Need
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Computer Engineering, or related field, and 5+ years of related experience, or Master's degree with 3+ years of experience
- Hands-on experience in ASIC physical design, power integrity/signal integrity/reliability closure, or custom circuit design and simulation
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to diagnose and resolve complex technical issues in real customer design environments
- Solid programming skills in scripting languages like Python, Tcl, or Perl for automation and workflow development
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain technical tradeoffs clearly to customers and internal teams
- Willingness to travel occasionally to customer sites for deployment and technical support
- Experience with EDA tools for power analysis, signal integrity, or reliability verification is a strong plus
Who You Are
- You can walk into a customer meeting with incomplete information, ask three sharp questions, and leave with a clear picture of what is actually broken and what needs to happen next
- You are comfortable context-switching between a product development discussion in the morning and a customer debug session in the afternoon without losing the thread of either
- You push back when a product spec is too vague or a deployment plan does not account for how customers actually work, and you do it in a way that moves the conversation forward
- You do not need to be the loudest person in the room, but when you speak, people listen because you have done the work and you know what you are talking about
- You are organized enough to manage multiple customer engagements, product feedback loops, and internal projects at once without dropping details that matter
- You genuinely enjoy learning new technology and figuring out how to make it work in messy, real-world conditions
The Team You'll Be Part Of
You will be part of the Applications Engineering team deploying Synopsys Ansys EDA products globally. The team works closely with software developers, architects, product specialists, and customers at top semiconductor companies to drive product development and deployment on leading-edge SoCs and 3DICs. Your recruiter will share more about the team structure, regional focus, and current customer engagements during the interview process.
Rewards and Benefits
We offer a comprehensive range of health, wellness, and financial benefits to cater to your needs. Our total rewards include both monetary and non-monetary offerings. Your recruiter will provide more details about the salary range and benefits during the hiring process.
At Synopsys, we want talented people of every background to feel valued and supported to do their best work. Synopsys considers all applicants for employment without regard to race, color, religion, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, military veteran status, or disability.
