About the Role

The Application Developer, ServiceNow Platform will design, build, and operate scalable applications and platform capabilities that support complex business and operational needs at Uber.

We are seeking an experienced ServiceNow engineer with 4+ years of hands-on experience who combines deep platform expertise with strong software engineering fundamentals. The role spans HRSD, ITSM, CMDB, workflow automation, AI, integrations, and core platform capabilities, with a focus on building secure, scalable, and maintainable solutions.

Beyond traditional ServiceNow development, this role will advance our engineering practices through AI agents, agentic workflows, and AI-assisted software development, including building tooling and engineering harnesses that apply AI across the ServiceNow SDLC, from development and testing to code review, documentation, and releases.

The engineer will also bring hands-on development experience beyond ServiceNow, enabling them to build applications, services, integrations, and automation that connect the platform with Uber’s broader technology ecosystem.

Responsibilities

  • ServiceNow Platform Engineering: Design and develop scalable ServiceNow applications and platform capabilities using strong software engineering principles, reusable patterns, and platform best practices. Establish development standards, guardrails, and architectural patterns while continuously evaluating opportunities to improve platform capabilities and developer productivity.
  • AI & Agentic Engineering: Design and implement AI-powered applications, agents, and agentic workflows using ServiceNow and broader enterprise AI technologies, integrating data, APIs, tools, and business processes. Build AI-enabled tooling and development harnesses for the ServiceNow SDLC to accelerate development, testing, code review, debugging, documentation, and releases.
  • Release Engineering, Quality & Reliability: Design and operate ServiceNow ReleaseOps and CI/CD practices, including source control, automated deployments, application lifecycle management, environment promotion, and automated testing using ATF and other frameworks. Troubleshoot production issues, perform root-cause analysis, and improve platform observability, reliability, and operational health.
  • Software Engineering Beyond ServiceNow: Develop applications, services, integrations, and automation using at least one programming or scripting language outside the ServiceNow platform, such as Python, TypeScript, JavaScript/Node.js, or Java, enabling solutions that extend across Uber’s broader technology ecosystem.
  • Integrations & APIs: Design and implement robust integrations between ServiceNow and enterprise systems using REST APIs, webhooks, IntegrationHub, Flow Designer, and event-driven patterns, incorporating appropriate authentication, observability, error handling, retries, and scalability.
  • CMDB & Discovery: Maintain CMDB health and data integrity through CSDM-aligned modeling, Discovery, Identification and Reconciliation Engine (IRE), and appropriate service and application relationships.
  • Technical Collaboration & Documentation: Collaborate with product managers, architects, engineers, business analysts, and partner engineering teams; clearly communicate technical decisions and trade-offs, and maintain effective documentation covering architecture, integrations, development patterns, and operational procedures.
  • Required Skills and Experience

  • ServiceNow Engineering: 6+ years of hands-on ServiceNow development experience delivering enterprise-scale applications and platform solutions, with strong expertise in JavaScript, Glide APIs, Business Rules, Script Includes, Client Scripts, UI Policies, UI Actions, scoped applications, Flow Designer, and platform APIs.
  • AI & Agentic Engineering: Hands-on experience building AI-powered applications, agents, or agentic workflows using ServiceNow AI capabilities and/or broader AI technologies, including integration with enterprise knowledge, APIs, tools, and workflows. Experience using AI-assisted development tools and applying AI effectively across the software development lifecycle.
  • Software Engineering: Hands-on programming experience in at least one language outside ServiceNow, such as Python, TypeScript, JavaScript/Node.js, or Java, with demonstrated ability to build or contribute to production applications, services, integrations, or automation.
  • Release Engineering & Quality: Experience with ServiceNow ReleaseOps and/or enterprise CI/CD practices, including source control, application lifecycle management, environment promotion, automated deployments, and automated testing using ATF or comparable testing frameworks.
  • Integrations & Reliability: Strong experience designing and implementing enterprise integrations using REST APIs, IntegrationHub, Flow Designer, webhooks, and authentication mechanisms such as OAuth, with consideration for production reliability including error handling, retries, logging, monitoring, idempotency, and failure recovery.
  • ITSM & CMDB: Strong understanding of ITSM, particularly Incident and Request Management, with experience in CMDB, CSDM, and enterprise configuration management.
  • Problem Solving & Collaboration: Strong analytical, debugging, and troubleshooting skills, with the ability to resolve complex application, platform, and integration issues and clearly communicate technical concepts and architectural decisions to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Certifications: ServiceNow Certified System Administrator (CSA) and Certified Application Developer (CAD), or equivalent demonstrated platform expertise.
  • Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience building AI agents or agentic applications beyond ServiceNow, using enterprise AI platforms, LLM APIs, agent frameworks, tool-calling architectures, or AI-assisted engineering tooling.
  • Experience with ServiceNow SDK, Fluent/TypeScript development, and modern ServiceNow application development patterns.
  • Experience with modern software engineering and cloud ecosystems, including GitHub/GitLab, CI/CD platforms, containers, observability tooling, cloud services, and enterprise APIs.
  • Demonstrated experience owning applications through the full engineering lifecycle, from architecture and implementation through deployment, production support, incident response, and continuous improvement.
  • Strong understanding of enterprise application and integration security, including OAuth, secrets management, API security, access controls, and secure integration patterns.
