AI Factory Controls & Automation Architect

Position Overview

The AI Factory Controls & Automation Architect serves as the global technical authority for controls, automation, and operational technology (OT) within Siemens' AI Factory Architecture organization. This highly visible role will define and drive globally scalable reference architectures spanning Building Management Systems (BMS), Electrical Power Monitoring Systems (EPMS), SCADA, PLC-based automation, OT networks, telemetry, and digital platforms that support the next generation of AI and mission-critical infrastructure.

With a global mandate across North America, EMEA, and Asia-Pacific, this role will partner with engineering, digitalization, sales, and customer teams to create repeatable frameworks that connect power, cooling, automation, digital twins, and AI-enabled operations. The successful candidate will help shape how hyperscale, colocation, enterprise, sovereign AI, and high-density GPU environments are designed, integrated, monitored, and operated worldwide.

This is not a traditional controls engineering or controls programming role. We are seeking a systems thinking architect who can translate complex engineering requirements into scalable global standards, support strategic customer engagements, and drive the integration of power, cooling, automation, and digital systems into a unified architecture that accelerates the deployment of next-generation AI infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

• Own and define the controls and automation strategy within Siemens global AI Factory architecture framework. 

• Develop scalable reference architectures, design standards, and integration frameworks for hyperscale, colocation, enterprise, and AI-focused data center environments. 

• Establish controls strategies, communication standards, resiliency requirements, and data integration frameworks across automation and digital platforms. 

• Partner with electrical, cooling, and digital architecture leaders to integrate power, thermal, controls, and operational technologies. 

• Define standards for telemetry, metadata, equipment tagging, and operational data supporting digital twins, analytics, and AI-enabled operations. 

• Ensure reference architectures balance global standardization with regional requirements across North America, EMEA, and APAC. 

• Support strategic customer engagements, architecture workshops, RFIs/RFPs, and complex pursuits involving hyperscalers and major data center customers. 

• Develop technical guidance, training, and reusable content for regional solutions architects and sales teams. 

• Evaluate Siemens and third-party technologies and define interoperable architectures that support customer and business objectives. 

• Represent Siemens as a technical thought leader with customers, partners, and industry organizations. 

Basic Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related technical discipline. 

• 10+ years of experience in data centers, mission-critical infrastructure, controls, automation, or OT environments. 

• Experience designing, integrating, or architecting BMS, EPMS, SCADA, PLC, or industrial automation systems. 

• Strong understanding of mission-critical power, cooling, and facility infrastructure. 

• Experience developing technical standards, reference architectures, or automation frameworks. 

• Knowledge of industrial networking, systems integration, and OT cybersecurity principles. 

• Experience leveraging AI, LLMs, APIs, scripting, and automation tools to improve engineering and operational outcomes. 

• Strong communication skills with the ability to influence technical and executive stakeholders. 

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with hyperscale, colocation, enterprise, or AI/GPU data center environments. 

• Experience with digital twins, digital thread, operational analytics, or cloud-to-edge integration. 

• Experience applying AI-enabled analytics, predictive operations, or automated root-cause analysis. 

• Familiarity with NEC, NFPA, UL, ASHRAE, IEC, IEC 62443, and related industry standards. 

• Experience integrating controls systems across power, cooling, energy storage, or liquid cooling technologies. 

• Experience working with hyperscalers, data center developers, engineering firms, OEMs, or system integrators.

The pay range for this position is $137,000.00 - $222,000.00 annually with a target incentive of 10% of the base salary. The actual wage offered may be lower or higher depending on budget and candidate experience, knowledge, skills, qualifications, and premium geographic location.
