The group you’ll be a part of

In the Etch Product Group C&F team, we are developing technology that enables the next generation of semiconductor processing and distinguishes Lam as the industry leader in etch. Core to this goal is RF power delivery, and the C&F team develops technology everywhere along the pathway from the AC outlet to the plasma chamber.  

The impact you’ll make

In this role you will contribute to Lam Research’s Conductor and Dielectric Etch technology portfolio. You will work directly with experienced RF engineers and Plasma Physicists developing novel RF power solutions that differentiate Lam products in the semiconductor market.  Your work will help yield the RF technology required for angstrom-level semiconductor processing.

What you’ll do

In addition to regular responsibilities, an RF Engineering Intern works autonomously in daily tasks and receives general instructions on new assignments:

  • Participates in development of moderately complex RF systems and sub-systems
  • Applies mathematical/engineering methods to RF system designs
  • Contributes to research efforts of data
  • Demonstrates good judgment in developing functional specifications for RF generators, matching networks, filters, and other RF networks
  • Networks with senior internal and external personnel in own area of expertise
  • Works with multidisciplinary engineering design team to design and modify custom and OEM system components

Who we’re looking for

  • BS/MS in Electrical Engineering, RF Engineering/Plasma, or similar fields
  • Very good oral, written, and presentation skills, in English
  • Solid understanding of electromagnetic theory
  • Solid understanding of RF network theory such impedance matching networks, filters, etc
  • Solid understanding of distributed network theory such as transmission lines, couplers, etc
  • Familiarity with Smith Chart theory and application
  • Familiarity with RF network characterization techniques such as S-parameter analysis
  • Familiar with RF measurement equipment (Power Meters, VNA, Impedance Analyzer and Spectrum Analyzers, etc.)
  • Experience with network modeling tools such as SPICE
  • Good understanding and adherence to lab safety standards

Preferred qualifications

  • Understanding of switch-mode electronics theory
  • Familiarity with analog and mixed-signal circuit theory
  • Familiarity with design for serviceability, manufacturability, reliability, etc.
  • Experience soldering/desoldering TH and SMT components
  • Experience using SW tools for test and analysis such as MatLab, Python, etc
  • Experience using EM simulation tools like HFSS, Comsol, etc
  • Proficient at troubleshooting systems with tools like oscilloscopes, voltage and current probes, etc

Lam offers a variety of work location models based on the needs of each role. Our hybrid roles combine the benefits of on-site collaboration with colleagues and the flexibility to work remotely and fall into two categories – On-site Flex and Virtual Flex. ‘On-site Flex’ you’ll work 3+ days per week on-site at a Lam or customer/supplier location, with the opportunity to work remotely for the balance of the week. ‘Virtual Flex’ you’ll work 1-2 days per week on-site at a Lam or customer/supplier location, and remotely the rest of the time.

Salary

CA San Francisco Bay Area Salary Range for this position: $29.75 -  $40.25.

The above salary range for this position is relevant to applicants that reside or work onsite in the California, San Francisco Bay Area only. Salary offers will depend on factors that include the location you work from, your level, education, training, specific skills, years of experience and comparison to other employees already in this role. Actual salary may vary from salary offered due to numerous factors including but not limited to unpaid time off, unpaid leave, company mandated shutdown, and other relevant factors.
