Are you passionate about product safety and want to make a global impact? AWS Global Trade and Product Compliance (GTPC) is seeking a Sr. Compliance Engineer to lead safety engineering efforts across our rapidly expanding data center infrastructure.

In this role, you will own the end-to-end safety compliance lifecycle — from early-stage design engagement through final certification — for AWS hardware spanning artificial intelligence, machine learning, power distribution, and cooling systems deployed in data centers worldwide. You'll serve as the technical authority on safety standards for control panels, low-voltage switchgear, and ICT equipment, partnering directly with product development teams, ODM design partners, test agencies, and legal stakeholders to deliver compliant products on tight timelines.

This is a high-visibility role where you'll influence design decisions, drive first-time-pass test outcomes, and build scalable processes that keep pace with AWS's growth. You'll also bring complementary expertise in one or more compliance domains –– EMC or Functional Safety.

If you thrive in ambiguity, love solving complex technical problems, and want to shape how the world's largest cloud provider approaches product safety, we'd love to hear from you.

Key job responsibilities
  • Own safety compliance strategy for new product introduction (NPI) and sustaining programs, identifying applicable requirements across global markets and driving execution from concept through certification.
  • Partner with hardware development teams during design reviews to proactively identify safety risks, recommend design modifications, and ensure first-time test pass rates.
  • Serve as the primary technical interface with Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratories (NRTLs) and Notified Bodies, managing test plans, resolving findings, and securing timely approvals.
  • Dive deep into technical issues with ODM design partners — performing root cause analysis, defining corrective actions, and implementing preventative measures to avoid recurrence.
  • Build and maintain a scalable compliance framework including templates, checklists, and process documentation that enables the team to support AWS's expanding hardware portfolio.
  • Develop and track metrics that provide visibility into certification pipeline health, cycle times, and risk areas — using data to prioritize improvement initiatives and communicate status to leadership.
  • Stay current on evolving global safety regulations and proactively assess impact to AWS's product roadmap.
A day in the life
You will review test reports from an agency partner, identifying a non-conformance on a new low-voltage switchgear design and working with the ODM to develop a corrective action plan. You join a design review for a next-generation cooling system, flagging a potential Machinery Directive concern and proposing an alternative approach. You update your certification tracker and prepare a risk summary for your manager's leadership review. You collaborate with a teammate on a new process template that will cut weeks off future program timelines.
