Software Engineering Manager, Looker, Google Cloud

As an Engineering Manager, you will lead a team of approximately 6-10 software engineers responsible for delivering an exceptional client experience for Looker. Your role is to build a team and guide them to execute on cloud data analytics priorities. You will hire, develop, and retain a team of software engineers. You will be responsible for their career growth, providing coaching, and managing performance to build an exceptional engineering organization. You will ensure the team's roadmap directly supports the critical goal of differentiated BI experiences using AI. You will collaborate closely with Product Management, other Cloud Data engineering teams, and customer-facing roles to respond to customer needs, and influence product direction.

Responsibilities
- Cultivate a team environment that is psychologically safe and encourages collaboration and innovation. Empower your team to take ownership and deliver outstanding results. Partner with Product Management and technical leads to define and execute the technical strategy for Looker.
- Guide the team through complex architectural decisions and ensure high standards for code quality are maintained through effective design and code review processes. Improve the end-to-end customer experience, from ease of use to debuggability and raw performance. Help customers profile their workload, and tune it for GCP.
- Ensure the team delivers high-quality software on time. Set priorities, manage the project execution, and communicate progress and risks to stakeholders across the organization.
Minimum qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
- 8 years of experience with software development in one or more programming languages (e.g., Python, C, C++, Java, JavaScript).
- 5 years of experience in a technical leadership role.
- 5 years of experience in a people management or team leadership role.
- 2 years of experience with GenAI techniques (e.g., LLMs, multi-modal, large vision models) or with GenAI-related concepts (e.g., language modeling, computer vision).
Preferred qualifications:
- Master’s degree or PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
- 5 years of experience working in a complex, matrixed organization.
