Within Microsoft Security, the Identity engineering team plays a critical role in protecting and enabling secure access for millions of users and developers worldwide. Identity serves as the control plane of modern security, providing the authentication and access technologies that power seamless single sign-on (SSO) and cloud experiences across Microsoft services and platforms.
Our team is looking for Software Engineer II's and Senior Software Engineers. In this role, you will design and implement secure, high-performance authentication components while partnering closely with security experts, product managers, and engineering teams across Microsoft to define requirements, solve complex technical challenges, and deliver solutions at global scale. You'll have the opportunity to influence not only how solutions are built, but also how they are designed and evolved to meet the security needs of the future.

This Hybrid position is located at our Microsoft office in Redmond, Washington. Relocation support will be provided, and successful candidates will need to relocate or reside within 50 miles of the field location.
Responsibilities
- Design and develop large-scale distributed software services and/or clients.
- Partner across engineering, product, and design to build customer-facing experiences that simplify complex workflows, reduce friction, and create moments of delight for users.
- Develop best-in-class engineering by ensuring services and components are well-defined, modular, secure, reliable, diagnosable, actively monitored, and reusable.
- Ensure testability, portability, reliability, and maintainability, and know when code is ready for delivery.
- Focus on customer/partner needs through a data-driven approach.
- Participate in on-call rotations, incident response, and root cause analysis.
- Troubleshoot and optimize automation, reliability, and monitoring for LiveSite.
- Evangelize the usage of AI to increase productivity and quality on the team.

Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, C, C++, C#, or Python
- OR equivalent experience.
Other Requirements:
Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:
- Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
Additional or Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR equivalent experience.
- 2+ years of experience designing, developing, or maintaining secure software systems, with applied knowledge of authentication, data protection, access control, and secure coding practices
- 2+ years of technical engineering experience with coding in programming languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, Rust, or Go
- 2+ years of experience designing, building, and operating scalable, highly available cloud services or distributed systems on platforms such as Azure, AWS, GCP, or comparable cloud environments, with production ownership and CI/CD pipeline integration.
- Experience leveraging AI tools to improve productivity at scale

Software Engineering IC3 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $102,100 - $202,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $133,800 - $219,200 per year.

Software Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $119,800 - $234,700 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $160,200 - $261,000 per year.
