Title and Summary
Senior Specialist, Business Expansion & TransformationServices within Mastercard is responsible for acquiring, engaging, and retaining customers by managing fraud and risk, enhancing cybersecurity, and improving the digital payments experience. We provide value-added services and leverage expertise, data-driven insights, and execution.Business Expansion & Transformation (BET) is a new team within Business & Market Insights (B&MI), charged with bridging B&MI’s current growth momentum with its 2030 growth ambition. BET does this by defining the strategic aperture for where the enterprise should source and originate new growth opportunities, identifying and interpreting internal and external signals, and translating those signals into tangible, investable opportunities. BET owns the front end of the growth lifecycle—from opportunity sourcing and origination through evaluation, portfolio construction, and graduation into development. This includes standing up new business verticals—products outside existing portfolios with use cases spanning multiple portfolios—as well as foundational capabilities that strengthen the current portfolio and create pathways to businesses the company could not otherwise build. BET acts as the accountable end-to-end steward, first building and owning the opportunity pipeline, then coordinating product, technology, and go-to-market partners to advance initiatives from early concept to scale.
Overview
The Senior Specialist, Business Expansion & Transformation plays a critical role supporting the Vice President in building, operating, and scaling BET’s opportunity pipeline—sourcing high-potential new businesses and transformative technologies. This role is highly executional and exposure-rich, sitting at the intersection of strategy, analytics, technology, and stakeholder coordination in a first-of-its-kind team at Mastercard. The individual will operationalize our stakeholder network for idea generation and GTM and act as a day-to-day liaison across internal and external stakeholders. The individual will also support due diligence work streams and the prioritization, governance, and tooling that underpin BET’s opportunity engine. The role is ideal for a high-potential professional with strong analytical rigor, structured thinking, and an interest in how new businesses are discovered, validated, and built inside a complex global enterprise.
The Role
•Develop clear, insight-driven opportunity narratives and decision frameworks that synthesize analysis, assumptions, risks, and tradeoffs into executive-ready briefs, diligence readouts, and multi-scenario business cases to support VP- and SVP-level investment decisions.
•Act as the day-to-day liaison and central point of coordination between Business Expansion & Transformation and cross-functional internal partners (Technology, Product, Finance, Legal, Privacy, Foundry, GTM), as well as select external stakeholders, ensuring alignment, momentum, and transparency.
•Translate strategic and operational needs into clear requirements for data products, analytics, automation, and tooling, ensuring business objectives are effectively converted into scalable technical solutions.
•Prepare concise, executive-ready reporting materials—including dashboards, progress updates, and narrative summaries—that clearly communicate insights, implications, and recommendations to senior leadership.
•Support the operation and evolution of BET’s opportunity prioritization framework by applying consistent evaluation criteria, tracking assumptions and risks, and monitoring pipeline health, stage progression, and portfolio balance across time horizons.
•Partner closely with technology teams to design, pilot, and scale advanced, agentic, and automated approaches to opportunity discovery, signal ingestion, diligence workflows, and portfolio tracking that expand BET’s reach and efficiency.
•Execute select structured due diligence across growth opportunities, including market sizing, customer and demand validation, competitive landscape analysis, business model assessment, and early commercial logic, in direct support of the Vice President and BET leadership.
All about you:
•Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with comfort operating amid ambiguity and incomplete data.
•Experience supporting strategy, growth, business operations, consulting, product, or analytics teams, with the ability to translate complex analysis into clear, executive-ready narratives.
•Demonstrated ability to coordinate across technical and business stakeholders, with high attention to detail, strong ownership, and a bias toward execution.
•Exposure to payments, fintech, data products, or platform-based business models is a plus, along with familiarity with opportunity evaluation or new business incubation.
•Experience with data automation, AI-enabled workflows, or analytics tooling, and an understanding of data privacy, compliance, and security considerations, are beneficial.
•Intellectually curious, structured, and motivated by building something new—you enjoy digging into problems, synthesizing insights, and helping senior leaders move from ideas to decisions.
•Comfortable operating behind the scenes, enabling scale, rigor, and momentum, and you see this role as a unique vantage point into enterprise growth and transformation.Mastercard is a merit-based, inclusive, equal opportunity employer that considers applicants without regard to gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, race, ethnicity, disabled or veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by law.
