About the Role
At Siemens Mobility, you'll contribute to developing and maintaining safety-critical railway signaling systems that help ensure safe and reliable train operations worldwide.
We are looking for an experienced Software Engineer who combines strong software development expertise with system-level thinking and architectural capabilities. In this role, you will grow into the role of the product expert on the well-established LZB80 train protection system, while supporting the further development of theTrainguard Basic Indusi (short TGBI). With your expertise you will be involved in numerous customer projects.
This position offers a unique opportunity to take ownership of a technically complex legacy system, acquire critical product know-how, and grow into a key architectural role within our international engineering organization
What Will Be Your Role?
• Develop, maintain, and enhance software for railway signaling and train protection systems with a focus on LZB80 and TGBI
• Analyze, troubleshoot, and improve existing software solutions, including investigation of field incidents and defect reports
• Work with legacy code bases developed in C and C++
• Support system-level analysis and architectural decision-making
• Collaborate with system engineers, architects, software developers, testers, and project teams
• Contribute to technical documentation and long-term product sustainability
• Participate in train test runs and field validation activities at customer locations (occasionally in Germany)
• Gradually take ownership of architectural responsibilities for the LZB80 and TGBI systems
• Support upcoming customer projects with your system knowledge
Personal Prerequisites and Skills
Essential
• Strong software development experience in C and C++
• Experience analyzing and maintaining existing software systems and legacy code bases
• Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills
• Ability to work independently on complex technical and system-level topics
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills
• Good English and German language skills for international cooperation
• Willingness to travel occasionally for train testing and field validation activities
Advantageous
- Experience with railway signaling systems or train protection systems
- Knowledge of national train control systems, ETCS, CBTC or similar technologies
- Experience as Software Architect, System Architect, or Lead Engineer
- Knowledge of operating systems, drivers, and low-level software development
- Experience in safety-critical software development
- Knowledge of railway signalling standards EN 50126, EN 50128 and EN 50129
- Experience with Safety Integrity Levels (SIL) and safety-related development processes
- Familiarity with railway approval and certification environments
- Passion for railway technology and transportation systems
