Senior Software Engineer, Geo Makers
Google's software engineers develop the next-generation technologies that change how billions of users connect, explore, and interact with information and one another. Our products need to handle information at massive scale, and extend well beyond web search. We're looking for engineers who bring fresh ideas from all areas, including information retrieval, distributed computing, large-scale system design, networking and data storage, security, artificial intelligence, natural language processing, UI design and mobile; the list goes on and is growing every day. As a software engineer, you will work on a specific project critical to Google’s needs with opportunities to switch teams and projects as you and our fast-paced business grow and evolve. We need our engineers to be versatile, display leadership qualities and be enthusiastic to take on new problems across the full-stack as we continue to push technology forward.
The Geo Makers team is on a mission to reach 100M makers by providing the accurate, comprehensive, and intelligent map platform. Understanding our Makers better is a critical enabler. The team focuses on Internal Services like data feedback loops, semantic mapping, centralized registry/catalog, data joinability engine, business-quality attribution, external services like agentic grounding and trust signals and compliance and audit caching, data governance framework like enumerate handling and usage requirements for third-party owned data, and rights protection for Geo-owned data. This team is expected to partner with the Maker Product teams, the Data Science team, the Maps Intelligence team and Real World Model teams and the emerging market focused cross-functional team to create the feedback loops that inform our data quality, customer insights, product and platform enhancements. The Geo team is focused on building the most accurate, comprehensive, and useful maps for our users, through products like Maps, Earth, Street View, Google Maps Platform, and more. Every month, more than a billion people rely on Maps services to explore the world and navigate their daily lives.
The Geo team also enables developers to use the power of Google Maps platforms to enhance their apps and websites. As they plot a course for the future of mapping, they are solving complex computer science problems, designing beautiful and intuitive product experiences, and improving our understanding of the real world.

- Design and develop infrastructure for continuous learning loops, capturing and processing interaction telemetry to drive real-time data optimizations.
- Apply machine learning and algorithmic solutions to recognize patterns in interaction data and automate quality improvements in real-time.
- Build observability and attribution systems to measure data quality improvements and connect them directly to business metrics.
- Collaborate with cross-functional partners and application teams to define data quality frameworks, establish partner feedback loops, and implement consistent data governance policies for Customer, third-party, and maker-owned data.
- Leverage and iterate on developer Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools to accelerate the software development lifecycle and improve engineering velocity.
Minimum qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
- 5 years of experience with software development in one or more programming languages.
- 3 years of experience testing, maintaining, or launching software products, and 1 year of experience with software design and architecture.
Preferred qualifications:
- Experience in Information Retrieval (IR), Machine Learning (ML), or algorithmic solutions for real-time optimization and pattern recognition.
- Experience applying ML models to data quality problems such as de-duplication or anomaly detection.
- Experience with large-scale distributed data infrastructure (e.g., MapReduce, Flume, Spanner).
- Experience with data governance, data privacy, or compliance frameworks for large-scale datasets.
- Ability to navigate ambiguity and help bootstrap new product areas from 0 to 1.
- Strong interest or experience in using AI-assisted coding tools (e.g., Large Language Model (LLM) code generation, developer agents) to write, test, and document code.
