Senior Software Engineer, Cloud AI for Science

Google AI Science on Cloud is a collaboration between Cloud, DeepMind, Research, and Labs to accelerate scientific research and discovery by using advanced AI systems. Our goal is to establish Google as the essential platform for complex, high value problems in science, technology, and industry.
Our team’s role is to bring DeepMind/Research solutions to Cloud customers as mature products that are directly managing acceleration. Our customers are the world's leading scientific institutions: universities, institutes, national and industrial labs.
The team is responsible for the quality of our products, and works closely with customers to close feature and quality gaps they face in their various applications. The agentic coding revolution that has hit software engineering is quickly spreading to the world’s most valuable knowledge workloads - and we are working to directly shape this transformation. In this role, you will help us bring agentic workflows to Science and scale access and adoption of revolutionary models and agents coming out of DeepMind and Research.
The Google Cloud AI Research team addresses AI challenges motivated by Google Cloud’s mission of bringing AI to tech, healthcare, finance, retail and many other industries. We work on a range of unique problems focused on research topics that maximize scientific and real-world impact, aiming to push the state-of-the-art in AI and share findings with the broader research community. We also collaborate with product teams to bring innovations to real-world impact that benefits our customers.
Responsibilities
- Contribute to launching science agents such as Co-Scientist, AlphaEvolve, and other upcoming products for the scientific research community.
- Build scalable and flexible infrastructure to deliver user experiences across our suite of products.
- Iterate on the quality of agents and tools so that they fulfill customers needs.
- Work with the various research teams involved to drive future development and ensure a healthy feedback loop.
- Develop self-serve tools so that research teams can bring their own agents and UI components.
Minimum qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
- 5 years of experience with software development in one or more programming languages, and with data structures/algorithms.
- 3 years of experience testing, maintaining, or launching software products, and 1 year of experience with software design and architecture.
Preferred qualifications:
- Experience building LLM-based products.
- Experience working on open-ended quality problems.
- Proficiency with agentic coding workflows.
- Knowledge of the Google stack.
