Senior Software Engineer
Forecasting team under Microsoft Advertising is building the next generation Inventory Management & Forecasting for our Monetize Platform, Planning and projection services for our Curate platform.
The Monetize Platform is an advanced AI-powered sell-side advertising technology platform that enables buyers and sellers to access and trade premium inventory in a transparent and streamlined environment. Microsoft Curate enables premium publishers to participate in a transparent content marketplace where high-quality curated content can be discovered, licensed, monetized, and delivered to AI-powered experiences.
IMF and Planner features help in capacity planning, inventory forecasting, Audience reach, impression estimation and delivery optimization across the Microsoft Advertising ecosystems. The platform processes massive amounts of data spanning inventory supply, advertiser demand, targeting signals, and delivery performance to generate mission-critical forecasts and projections that directly influence revenue and customer satisfaction.
We are looking for an experienced Senior Software Engineer to help drive the architecture, development, and evolution of Microsoft's forecasting and planning systems. As a technical leader, you will work across engineering, product, data science, and partner teams to build highly scalable distributed systems, modernize legacy infrastructure, improve platform reliability and observability, and enable the next generation of monetization capabilities.

Starting January 26, 2026, Microsoft AI (MAI) employees who live within a 50- mile commute of a designated Microsoft office in the U.S. or 25-mile commute of a non-U.S., country-specific location are expected to work from the office at least four days per week. Responsibilities
- Lead the architecture, design, implementation, testing and delivery of highly scalable distributed platforms that power forecasting, inventory allocation, reach estimation, capacity planning and other mission-critical business capabilities by establishing and championing engineering best practices.
- Drive technical strategy and engineering decisions across teams, influencing architecture direction, platform modernization, and long-term technology investments while ensuring alignment with business objectives.
- Develop durable, cloud-native solutions that balance scalability, reliability, performance, security, operational excellence, and maintainability.
- Own platform health and operational excellence by establishing robust observability, monitoring, telemetry, alerting, resiliency, and automation practices that improve system reliability and reduce operational burden.
- Drive engineering efficiency and platform evolution through service consolidation, platform simplification, automation, and adoption of modern engineering practices that improve developer productivity and accelerate delivery.
- Partner closely with Product teams, Data Science, and business stakeholders to translate complex business requirements into impactful technical solutions and measurable customer value.
- Serve as the Designated Responsible Individual (DRI) for critical services, providing technical leadership during production operations, incident response, capacity planning, and service lifecycle management.
- Build organizational capability by mentoring engineers, developing future technical leaders, and fostering a culture of technical excellence, accountability, continuous learning, and innovation.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
- OR equivalent experience.
Other Requirements:
Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:
- Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
- OR Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
- OR equivalent experience.
- Solid Software Engineering experience building and operating large-scale distributed systems using cloud-native services and data-intensive platforms with proficiency in Spark.
- Experience leading complex cross-team engineering initiatives, system design, service architecture, reliability engineering, and production operations.
- Solid problem-solving and deep technical leadership skills.
- Solid fundamental understanding of generalized architecture patterns, data structures, algorithms, time complexity, etc.
- Experience designing, building, or supporting applications on Microsoft Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
- Experience with modern software development stack including APIs, microservices, containers, Kubernetes, CI/CD, DevOps, cloud-native architectures, and AI application development.
- Knowledge on Azure services.

Software Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $119,800 - $234,700 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $160,200 - $261,000 per year.
