Overview
The Core Authentication team is responsible for MasterCard’s safety and security related product development efforts to protect the integrity of the electronic payment system as well as ensure payments are convenient yet secure. The products are primarily focused on cyber security, authentication, fraud prevention, risk mitigation and dispute resolution across all payment channels as well as all stakeholders - issuers, acquirers, merchants, processors, and consumers. The key objectives of the solutions are to prove identity, reduce abandonments, reduce fraud, increase approval rates, and secure the payments ecosystem.
The Authentication Identity Check team within Core Payments is looking for a looking for a Product Manager - Technical to support the development of advanced, cloud-native applications that are transforming the payments landscape.
About the role
Software Engineers at Mastercard design and code a variety of applications covering transaction processing, analytics, user interfaces, and APIs using a blend of cutting-edge technologies across big data, distributed systems, machine learning, and more. As a Senior Software Engineer, you will deliver these products and solutions with speed and agility as part of a small team. This will involve developing high-performing, highly scalable software solutions and products for some of the world’s top brands. Specific tasks vary depending on the project and the business unit that you join in.

As a Senior Software Engineer at Mastercard, you are expected to perform the following general responsibilities:
  • Help lead team prioritization discussions in close collaboration with Product and Business stakeholders
  • Lead estimation and end-to-end ownership of delivery tasks, including design, development, testing, deployment, configuration, and documentation.
  • Automate build, operate, and run aspects of software.
  • Drive architectural, design, and engineering trade-off discussions within the team, balancing scalability, reliability, maintainability, and delivery timelines.
  • Represent the team in demos, acceptance reviews, and stakeholder discussions, effectively communicating technical decisions, progress, and risks.
  • Drive adoption of technology standards and practices and review code, test, and automation work of team members.
•Debug complex issues and demonstrate relentless ownership in identifying and resolving root causes across multiple services, systems, and product modules.
• Mentor and guide new and less-experienced team members.

All about you
  • Bachelor/master’s degree in computer science with a 5-6 yrs IT software solutions experience
  • 5+ yrs or more must-have experience developing Java/SpringBoot APIs, backend applications
  • Hands-on experience testing REST APIs and web applications using Postman, SoapUI, Groovy scripting, and BDD frameworks such as Cucumber or JBehave.
  • Strong experience with Java, Spring Framework/Spring Boot, and Cloud Foundry-based application deployment and support.
  • Strong hands-on experience with Jenkins, Bitbucket, Git, and CI/CD pipeline implementation and maintenance.
  • Experience of working with Agile methodologies.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills with the ability to debug complex application and integration issues.
  • Strong organizational and prioritization skills, with the ability to manage multiple deliverables while meeting business timelines and commitments.
  • Experience in payment processing platforms or other large-scale enterprise applications supporting high-volume global transactions.
  • Experience collaborating with engineering teams to design and build scalable, reliable, performant, and testable systems.
It is expected a candidate should have experience across multiple areas listed below.
  • Apply advanced design patterns, API standards, and engineering best practices. Develop performant, maintainable software and troubleshoot complex issues across distributed, multi-tier architectures. Design and implement scalable, resilient data retention solutions.
  • Lead planning, prioritization, and scoping of features, technical debt, and enhancements. Drive effective trade-off discussions with engineering, product, business, and management stakeholders. Partner with product owners to drive acceptance and signoffs. Understands and leverages engineering delivery metrics such as velocity, throughput, lead time, and defect trends to improve solution quality, predictability, and team effectiveness.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills. Clearly articulates complex technical concepts across technical and business domains. Demonstrates precision in design discussions and effectively communicates ideas across teams, seniority levels, and geographies.
  • Design and implement effective testing approaches that ensure application reliability, performance, maintainability, and coverage of critical business scenarios. Understand when to leverage unit, integration, regression, and performance testing to build confidence in complex system changes.
  • Highly effective at debugging complex issues and relentless in identifying root causes that span multiple services, systems, and product modules.
  • Mentor junior engineers and interns to achieve greater productivity and independence. Share technical expertise, domain knowledge, and engineering best practices while encouraging continuous learning and growth.
  • Manage build and release processes using standard engineering tools. Drive automation of software deployments, upgrades, patches, and releases through CI/CD pipelines. Demonstrate familiarity with observability, monitoring, and application health metrics.
  • Demonstrate flexibility, professionalism, and empathy in team interactions. Build consensus through constructive discussions and proactively support teammates across functions, roles, and geographies.
  • Proven ability to understand business and organizational needs and apply industry trends to solve complex design and architectural challenges across teams and organizational boundaries.
