Your New Role...
The Senior Analyst, Audience & Content Analytics will lead analytics efforts that help CNN understand, anticipate, and learn from the major planned and breaking news moments that shape audience demand across platforms. This role sits at the intersection of Audience Strategy, Editorial, Social, Product, Revenue, and Partnerships, translating event-driven audience behavior into insights that inform coverage planning, distribution strategy, resource allocation, and post-event learning.
As a Senior Analyst and strategic partner, you will build CNN's event intelligence capability: the shared frameworks, benchmarks, and analyses the organization uses to evaluate how major moments create audience value. You will help move event analysis from reactive reporting to proactive intelligence, ensuring leaders enter major moments with clear expectations and leave them with actionable lessons for future coverage.
Your Role Accountabilities…
Inform Event Intelligence Leadership
Own CNN's analysis framework for major planned and breaking events, including how events are sized, benchmarked, monitored, and evaluated across platforms.
Develop repeatable methodologies for event opportunity sizing, audience demand expectations, event impact measurement, and cross-event comparisons.
Partner with Editorial, Audience Strategy, Product, Social, Revenue, and Partnerships teams to translate event insights into decisions before, during, and after major moments.
Build a clear point of view on which events create lasting audience value versus short-term traffic spikes, and what CNN should do differently as a result.
Planned Event Preparedness & Breaking News Response
Support planning for major anticipated moments such as elections, debates, court decisions, international conflicts, natural disasters, cultural tentpoles, sports tentpoles, and other high-impact news cycles.
Provide forward-looking reads on expected audience demand, likely discovery paths, audience composition, distribution opportunities, and potential revenue implications.
Serve as the audience analytics lead during major breaking events, delivering rapid, well-bounded insights that help stakeholders understand performance against expectations and identify emerging opportunities.
Create pre-event, live-event, and post-event views that connect audience behavior to business decisions without turning the role into a recurring reporting service desk.
Measurement, Benchmarking & Knowledge Base
Build and maintain event benchmarks that allow CNN to compare current performance against relevant historical moments, peer coverage patterns, baselines, and audience expectations.
Define consistent event measurement standards, including how the organization evaluates audience scale, acquisition, referral mix, engagement opportunity, return behavior, and platform-specific impact.
Identify instrumentation gaps, taxonomy needs, data quality issues, or methodological risks that limit CNN's ability to understand event performance, and work cross-functionally to resolve them.
Develop an institutional event knowledge base that captures what CNN learned from major moments and makes those learnings reusable for future planning.
Stakeholder Communication & Strategy
Translate complex event performance into clear implications for senior Editorial, Audience, Product, Social, Revenue, and Executive stakeholders.
Present insights in concise, decision-oriented formats that distinguish what happened, why it matters, what the limits of the data are, and what CNN should consider next.
Partner with leaders across Audience Analytics and sibling analytics teams to ensure event intelligence complements forecasting, audience discovery, market and distribution strategy, content impact, engagement, and content performance measurement.
Qualifications & Experience…
Required:
5+ years of experience in audience analytics, digital analytics, news analytics, business intelligence, data science, or similar analytical roles.
Strong experience translating complex behavioral data into clear recommendations for senior stakeholders.
Advanced proficiency in SQL and experience working with large, complex digital audience datasets.
Experience working with editorial, audience strategy, product, growth, social, revenue, or other cross-functional stakeholder teams.
Ability to operate effectively in fast-moving, high-pressure news environments while keeping analysis accurate, appropriately scoped, and decision-oriented.
Strong analytical storytelling skills, including experience building executive-ready presentations, summaries, or briefings.
Experience developing reusable measurement frameworks, benchmarks, or recurring analytical methods that can be applied across multiple business questions.
Ability to balance strategic thinking with hands-on analytical problem solving in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred:
Familiarity with digital media, publishing, news, social distribution, audience development, or live event coverage.
Experience with forecasting, benchmarking, cohort analysis, audience segmentation, or event-based performance measurement.
Experience working with dbt, modern data modeling practices, or analytics engineering workflows.
Proficiency in Python or other statistical scripting languages.
