Description

The Quality Dimensional Automation Technician (Gap & Flush) is a hands-on and analytical role focused on improving dimensional accuracy and delivering data-driven reliability across the manufacturing line. You will provide practical and analytical support to the engineering team while ensuring the dimensional quality of Tesla products, with particular emphasis on gap and flush conditions throughout the process - including single components, Body in White (BIW), and General Assembly (GA).

Core responsibilities include generating accurate dimensional reports, developing cohesive control plans, performing variation and SPC analysis, and driving continuous improvement using industry-standard tools such as 8D root cause analysis.  Systems & Measurement Technologies

This role requires strong proficiency with proprietary manufacturing and quality systems used to collect, analyze, and act on dimensional and process data. You should be comfortable working in custom environments that support real-time monitoring, control plans, trend analysis, and data-driven decision-making on the production line.

You will work with a wide range of measurement systems. While experience with traditional CMM and tactile systems is valuable, familiarity with vision systems, laser measurement, optical scanning, and other automated inline metrology solutions that are used across components, BIW, and GA is highly relevant.

Responsibilities

  • Connect, validate, and calibrate in-house and supplier measurement systems (vision, laser, optical, CMM, tactile, and related technologies) to the Inhouse measurement database; support the engineering team in developing quality requirements and control plans
  • Monitor part and body measurement data using measurement database systems, Automated metrology software, and other relevant tools to enable data-driven decisions on gap and flush conditions
  • Maintain documentation for all dimensional inspection systems and ensure compliance with Tesla’s internal quality standards, which draw strong inspiration from ISO 9001 principles
  • Solve complex quality challenges using advanced statistical analysis; perform variation and SPC analysis; execute continuous improvement and 8D root cause analysis on machines and measurement systems to support engineering initiatives
  • Collaborate on Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) development; identify critical design and manufacturing risks; implement mitigations; develop and manage Dimensional Quality KPIs
  • Investigate and implement new measurement concepts and systems in coordination with departmental leads; support the engineering team in cross-functional efforts to drive quality improvements
  • Demonstrate strong attention to detail and a data-driven problem-solving mindset; communicate clearly and work effectively both independently and in a team environment to meet tight deadlines and support operational excellence

Requirements

  • Degree in technical engineering or equivalent
  • 1 or more years of experience in Manufacturing, Quality, or Measurement Systems
  • Strong technical aptitude in using dimensional precision measurement inspection hardware (tactile, laser triangulation, camera vision is a plus, calipers, nominal gauges, etc.)
  • Ability to read and interpret GD&T drawings
  • Understanding of the fundamentals of GD&T highly desired
  • Ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel (including data management), and PowerPoint
  • Knowledge of at least one coding language in any field is a strong plus but not compulsory
  • Very good written and spoken English skills
  • Willingness to work nights and weekends based on project needs or offer supports to quality department in staff shortage situation
